This is a temporary position.
The Basic Needs Specialist will work in coordination with the Basic Needs Coordinator to support food security services, including but not limited to CalFresh application support and free grocery distributions. As of now, both of these services are offered in partnership with Alameda County Community Food Bank, where MOU's were developed between Ohlone College and ACCFB to provide CalFresh outreach, application support, and problem resolution. Additionally, Ohlone College has been offered membership into ACCFB's food network and is in the process of developing that partnership in order to access free grocery items to distribute to the community. Grocery distributions will take several forms, including distributions using the “Community Market”, which is a
grocery-store-style pantry built on the Fremont campus and “Free Farmers Markets”, which are
pop-up food distributions on both the Fremont and Newark campuses. Food distribution services will require working with several community partnerships, including but not limited to ACCFB, Tri-City Volunteers, and the Daily Bowl.
Under general supervision of the Director of Student Life, the Basic Needs Specialist will guide work related to MOU's with community partners to expand CalFresh access and free grocery distributions across the Ohlone Community College District. Additionally, the Basic Needs Specialist will provide intentional outreach and specialized program information to historically minoritized student populations; provide application assistance for public benefits such as CalFresh; partner with other student services and instructional departments; tracking of budgetary expenses such as Community Market and Free Farmer's Market purchases; assist with coverage and procurement of food for the of the district's food distributions; plan and implement operational logistics of food distributions; perform administrative support and input program-specific information into databases and computer systems; and perform other related duties as assigned.
