Job Info

The University of Richmond Department of Health Studies invites applications for a full-time, one-year visiting assistant professor position, beginning in August 2024. We seek research-active candidates with a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate education.

The successful candidate for this position will be prepared to teach both "Health Systems and Policy" and "Epidemiology and Health Research Methods." The teaching load is three courses per semester (fall and spring), with the opportunity to participate in campus-based programs for early career faculty that focus on teaching, research, and professional development. A Ph.D. in epidemiology, health policy, or a closely related field is required and must be conferred prior to the start date.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students "to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society."

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its program, please see https://hs.richmond.edu.

Applicants must apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu and submit a CV and a 2-3-page cover letter that summarizes the applicant's qualifications to teach the two courses listed, describes the applicant's teaching philosophy, and illustrates the applicant's commitment to inclusive and effective pedagogy. Applicants will be asked to provide the names and contact information of three references, but letters of recommendation will only be requested for finalists for the position.

Review of applications will begin on March 18, 2024, and continue until the position is filled. Questions about the search should be directed to department chair Dr. Kathryn H. Jacobsen (kjacobse@richmond.edu).
