This position is with The Florida Center for Reading Research, located in Innovation Park at 2010 Levy Avenue.

The Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) conducts primary research on reading and reading related issues, while also translating research to support the uptake and use of evidence-based practices in schools and communities. FCRR accomplishes these activities through several active research projects and through robust partnerships with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

The candidate in this position will work with faculty, staff, and students within The Village at FCRR, and school and community partners to develop and implement a research, dissemination, and engagement agenda that is responsive to the needs of specific, targeted communities and stakeholders.

This is an Assistant or Associate in Research specialized faculty position. Primary responsibilities for this position will include contributing to the development, design, delivery, and dissemination of evidence-based and evidence-informed training and technical assistance for projects within The Village.

The candidate will join a diverse, interdisciplinary group of colleagues and students at FCRR. Drawing from multiple disciplines, FCRR investigates all aspects of reading and reading-related skills across the lifespan. Through rigorous and robust research, innovation, and engagement, FCRR advances the science of reading to improve learning and achievement from birth through adulthood. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to activities across FCRR, including collaborating on research projects, partnerships with local schools and communities, and supporting undergraduate and graduate student training.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Leading various multi-year, interdisciplinary training, technical assistance, and engagement projects conducted in partnership with local and state educational agencies and community-based organizations.

Developing and designing trainings, tools, and materials that can be delivered in various formats (e.g., workshops, webinars, courses, print media) and modalities (e.g., online, face to face, hybrid) to a variety of audiences (e.g., teachers, families, clinicians, community members, policymakers).

Mentoring and supervising undergraduate and graduate students. This position will also support research, evaluation, engagement, and grant seeking activities within The Village.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a demonstrated record of achievement in the following areas:

  • Master's degree in reading, language, literacy, or related area (e.g., education, psychology, communication science and disorders) or highest level terminal degree.
  • Teaching certification, endorsement, and/or advanced training in reading, language, literacy, or related area is required (e.g., teacher certification in elementary middle, or secondary education levels, exceptional student education, or reading education; certification in speech language impairment; endorsements in ESOL or Reading).
  • Demonstrated experience providing reading, language, and literacy instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades (e.g., classroom teacher, special education teacher, speech language pathologist, reading interventionist, reading specialist).
  • Demonstrated experience in a position that supports educators providing reading, language, and literacy instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades (e.g., lead teacher, reading/instructional coach, principal/assistant principal).
  • Demonstrated experience in project management or leadership position.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition, the following experiences and expertise are preferred:

  • PhD or EdD in reading or reading-related field (e.g., education, psychology, communication science and disorders).
  • Five or more years of experience providing reading, language, and literacy instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades (e.g., classroom teacher, special education teacher, speech language pathologist, reading interventionist, reading specialist).
  • Five or more years of experience in a position that supports educators providing reading, language, and literacy instruction to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades (e.g., lead teacher, reading/instructional coach, principal/assistant principal).
  • Two or more years of experience in project management or leadership position.
  • Two or more years of experience disseminating and communicating research- and evidence-based practices, results, and other information in multiple formats to diverse stakeholders, including academic researchers, teachers, community partners, policymakers, funders, and parents/families.
  • Experience leading and managing training and technical assistance projects, including planning, organizing, and hosting events with diverse stakeholder groups; supervision of staff; and working on research teams within university-based settings.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and/or sustaining research-practice partnerships between a university and a community partner.
  • Experience developing and/or using innovative programming and communication approaches to disseminate research evidence to non-academic audiences.
  • Experience in developing and using data management, data coding, and data analyses systems and software (e.g., FileMaker, RedCap, NVivo, SPSS, R, Qualtrics).
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively to accomplish assigned tasks and deliverables on time with minimal error and minimal supervision.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite of collaboration tools, including SharePoint and Teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Anticipated Salary Range

$55,000 to $70,000 annually, commensurate with education, experience, and level of the position.

Considerations

This is a Faculty position.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check.

The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is not a remote position. Candidates should expect to be physically in the office and available during standard business hours through email, TEAMS, ZOOM, and phone. This position is based in Tallahassee at the Florida Center for Reading Research and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule up to 2 days per week; however, telecommuting arrangements may be modified to support projects and/or work productivity.

Candidates should also expect to work on some evenings and weekends and to travel within the region, only as needed, to support projects and activities.
