The X-Ray Technologist is responsible for the delivery of quality imaging services to patients (geriatrics, adults, and adolescents) of Shepherd Center. This multi-faceted role is instrumental to the success of the imaging department and provides important information to physicians and providers for the establishment of optimal patient care. The Technologist combines clinical applications with that of anatomy and physiology education to deliver successful clinical operations and patient outcomes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The X Ray Technologist provides basic clinical care to patients through the X-Ray testing of body mechanics.
  • Schedules patients and prioritizes exams based on clinical need.
  • Reviews and verifies orders before beginning exams.
  • Reviews the patient EMR for safety concerns that could alter the quality of the exam or affect patient care.
  • Prepares patient and room for exams and explains procedure, transfers patient using proper lifting and transfer techniques, positions patient and assists patient as needed during the exam.
  • Performs clinical evaluation of all patients and performs exams specifically as stated in the physician order.
  • Observes patient and equipment during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences in relation to patient condition to the Imaging Supervisor.
  • Delivers all images to PACS and the Radiologist and ensures receipt of exam dictation.
  • Rotate through other imaging departments and will aid other staff to achieve all patient care standards, as needed and determined by the Imaging Supervisor.
  • Completes all daily tasks for optimal departmental operation.
  • Provides a line of communication regarding department affairs amongst department staff, other clinical staff, and physicians.
  • Reports departmental concerns to the Imaging Supervisor.
  • Attends department staff meetings.
  • Manages inventory of supplies.
  • Maintains all center-wide requirements such as annual Employee Health requirements, ARW's, and competencies.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • Associate degree in radiologic science or hospital-based radiology education program.
REQUIRED LICENSURE
  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography ARDMS/RDMS required
  • ARRT Registry eligibility required
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience.
  • One (1) year of duplex image experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Uses body, tools, or special devices to safely, effectively, and efficiently to move, guide, or place patients. Involves some latitude for judgement with regard to precision attained and the selection of what adaptive device(s) to utilize.
  • Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 50 lbs.
