POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for overseeing wastewater treatment plants. This includes ensuring that work is compliant with contract terms and conditions; employees are working effectively and that the equipment and processes are operating properly.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform job duties in a safe manner compliant with policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Supervise employees, ensure that employees are properly trained and have resources to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • Coach, develop and provide feedback to employees, both positive and corrective timely; complete performance appraisals and conduct performance meetings.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationship with customer; seek feedback and address concerns.
  • Identify, and timely address operational problems and take corrective action as defined by policies.
  • Prepare, maintain, complete, and submit paperwork and reports (manually and electronically) timely including work schedules, work orders, requisitions and technical reports.
  • Determines proper operational procedures, process parameters and supervises implementation.
  • Maintains an inventory of chemicals necessary for the efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration; perform a variety of operation calculations to improve operations and reduce costs.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to accommodate site needs.
  • Monitor work performance and results on a regular basis including lab tests, equipment operations.
  • Ensure a safe, neat and clean work environment, this includes work area and equipment.
  • Model professional behavior at all times; report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to work.
  • Comply with appearance and dress policies to ensure a safe and professional work environment.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by policy, regulations, work practices, or customer.
  • Work effectively in and assist in creating a team environment.
  • Commitment to promoting and creating a safety culture and positive work environment.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

  • Ability to wear a full and half face respirator.
  • Able to sit periodically and for extended periods of time, climb ladders/stairs, reach below knees and above shoulders, kneel and crawl to access work areas.
  • Able to enter and exit industrial vehicle.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and ability to reach forward and grasp.
  • Ability to balance and walk on wet and slick surfaces, metal grates, narrow platforms, and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to work in loud, cold, hot, wet and dry environments; inside or outside.
  • Occasionally lift, push or pull up to 20 lbs.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ohio Class II Wastewater Certification (Class III preferred, or able to obtain within 6 months of start date)
  • 5 years of experience in a wastewater treatment industry
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and repairing wastewater treatment plant equipment, instrumentation and associated systems.
  • Experience and knowledge of wastewater treatment standards, regulations, federal, state and local laws.
  • Experience and knowledge of water /wastewater treatment process engineering, water quality assurance, and maintenance strategy and laboratory procedures.
  • 2 years of experience supervising employees and creating and assigning work schedules.
  • Troubleshooting, problem solving and team building skills.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and understanding of cost control.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient using PC, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Pass drug screens, physical and safety sensitive background check.
  • Read and understand instructions/signs/directions in English.
