JOB SUMMARY
The VP Nursing Operations reports to the BSWH Executive Vice President and System Chief Nurse Executive and provides operational system-wide leadership for the health care system's nursing function. The focus of this position is to provide leadership, support and guidance in operations including financial management, technology, clinical applications and tools that support nursing. The VP Nursing Operations provides functional subject matter expertise in the oversight of projects and systems that support nursing operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Provides routine education/mentoring for nurse leaders to enhance their financial acumen and management.

Identifies opportunities to improve financial performance and implements strategies to enhance net margin.

Analyzes/interprets nursing utilization trends within context of overall facility operations/performance.

Designs customized strategies to assist unit, service line and facility nurse leaders to engage resource management best practices.

Facilitates service line strategies across BHCS as needed representing BHCS Office of the CNO.

Identifies and acts on opportunities to standardize policies, processes, systems, tools, equipment, materials, etc. and provides leadership to oversee analysis and implement changes as appropriate.

Leads in the design and implementation of staffing and scheduling system across BHCS as tool to standardize administrative practices across facilities, create balanced schedules, align labor utilization with patient volume and acuity requirements, and reduce staffing inefficiencies.

Develops and manages budget and expenses accounted to assigned cost centers.

Represents Nursing at BSWH steering committees as requested.

Assists VP Workforce Planning in the creation of an annual BSWH Nursing Report and ongoing Marketing strategies for BHCS nursing.

Actively participates in national and local professional organizations.

Represents BSWH through formal partnerships in the community and nationally through presentations/publications.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Proven nurse leadership skills driving accountability

Exhibited track record of developing successful staff medical relationships in both the ambulatory and acute care settings

Experienced collaborator with other clinical disciplines to improve patient safety, quality and excellence of care model

Experience in Shared Governance model nursing environment; experience from Magnet Hospital is preferred

Ability to work collaboratively with other clinical and administrative disciplines to accomplish strategic initiatives and clinical quality goals

May substitute related scope of experience in the patient care arena for CNO experience
 

QUALIFICATIONS
