Visiting Research Program Manager

Primary Position Function/Summary:

Support the mission of the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC)-to reduce the energy footprint of the state of Illinois-by managing energy efficiency projects, performing research, creating educational materials, and educating clients about best practices in energy efficiency and sustainability.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical and Research

  • Manage SEDAC energy efficiency projects from initiation to planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Perform technical energy and sustainability research, including baseline energy and emissions analysis, modeling alternative scenarios and sustainable solutions, and quantifying the costs and benefits of sustainable solutions.
  • Produce research materials including literature reviews, manuscripts, and reports.
  • Participate in proposal writing for sponsored projects, including research grants, cooperative agreements, and service agreements.

Outreach and Education
  • Promote awareness of SEDAC energy and sustainability programs and best practices through participation in workshops, webinars, and other events.
  • Develop SEDAC's client base through network interactions and direct client contacts.
  • Develop outreach materials, including fact sheets, presentations, and digital media.
  • Research energy and sustainability practices and literature to produce educational materials.
  • Participate in workshop planning and implementation.

Operations
  • Track and report program activities.
  • Follow up with clients to track implementation of sustainability solutions and to provide technical assistance.
  • Mentor students and new SEDAC staff.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned to further the mission of SEDAC.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or related field

Preferred: Master's degree.

Experience:

Required: Energy analysis, energy modeling, or related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of energy modeling software and energy audits. Excellent analytical skills, and written and verbal communication skills.

Primary Position Function/Summary:

Support the mission of the Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC)-to reduce the energy footprint of the state of Illinois-by advancing energy and sustainability research and analyses, representing SEDAC-funded projects for external entities, and applying research outcomes to educate the team and clients about best practices in energy, sustainability, and applicable SEDAC programs.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical and Research
  • Lead program management for multiple energy efficiency projects: Provide mentorship and support to team members as you manage the project from initiation to planning, execution, and reporting.
  • Lead technical energy and sustainability research as the Team Lead for a specific SEDAC-funded project. Research activities may include completing a baseline energy or emissions analysis, modeling alternative scenarios, analyzing energy efficiency solutions and calculating their benefits, costs, and savings.
  • Lead the development and completion of research projects and initiatives, including literature reviews, manuscripts, and reports.
  • Lead proposal writing for sponsored projects including research grants, cooperative agreements, and service agreements.

Outreach
  • Represent SEDAC and SEDAC programs as a Team Lead to outside entities through participation in workshops, webinars, and other related events.
  • Develop SEDAC's client base through network interactions and direct client contacts by actively promoting the SEDAC mission and encouraging implementation.
  • Develop outreach materials for presentations, flyers, posters, and digital media.
  • Provide outreach to external groups through speaking engagements and meetings.

Operations
  • Manage and oversee the initiatives of a SEDAC-funded project.
  • Track and report specific program activities.
  • Follow up with clients and program implementations.
  • Mentor junior staff and students.
  • Other relevant duties as assigned to further the mission of SEDAC.

Required: Five years of experience in energy analysis, energy modeling, or related experience

These are full-time, benefits-eligible visiting academic professional positions appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.
