Job Info

John Carroll University invites nominations and applications to serve as the next Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This is a mission-critical position that entails leadership of an innovative division promoting inclusive excellence across the University. John Carroll University is a private, co-educational, Jesuit Catholic university located on a beautiful 60-acre campus in University Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. It is part of a national network of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities that share a deep commitment and spirit of collaboration around diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Reporting to the President of the University, the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VPDEI) works in partnership with the rest of the Senior Leadership Team to advance equity, inclusion, and diversity as integral components of the University's mission. This position provides leadership and vision for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; the Center for Student Diversity and Inclusion; Student Accessibility Services; and the Title IX Office.

The VPDEI will also be responsible for executing and overseeing the Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence; engaging members of the JCU community in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts; and being a strong and visible ambassador on campus and beyond. The VPDEI is a key liaison for the recruitment and engagement of students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community partners.

Candidates should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in diversity and inclusion efforts in the higher education sector or equivalent accomplishments in other sectors that are transferable to higher education. In addition to strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, candidates should also demonstrate a broad, nuanced understanding of how diversity, equity, and inclusion theory and practice applies to higher education generally and to the Jesuit Catholic mission of John Carroll University specifically. A Ph.D. or other terminal degree is preferred.

Interested candidates should complete an application and upload a resume/curriculum vitae, a cover letter that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Profile, and the names and contact information of three references using the following link: https://jcu.peopleadmin.com/postings/2285. Candidates will be notified prior to the University contacting any references. The confidential review of applications will begin on February 1, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled.

Nominations and inquiries are encouraged and can be directed to Edward Peck, Ph.D., Vice President for Mission & Identity and search committee chair at epeck@jcu.edu or 216-397-4218.

John Carroll University is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer. The University is committed to diversity in the workplace and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
