Summary and Principal Duties

Mass General Brigham is seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as Vice President, Enterprise Systems.

Reporting directly to the Chief Information and Digital Officer, the Vice President, Enterprise Systems will be a key member of the Digital leadership team. They will be accountable for meeting the technology and data needs of the Enterprise Services functions; namely HR, Finance, Supply Chain, Research Management, Real Estate, Office of the General Council, Internal Communications and Strategy. The Vice President, Enterprise Systems will manage the core Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform, the Service Management and Internal CRM platform (ServiceNow), surrounding complementary systems and other applications within the Enterprise Functions domain. They will build and maintain the technology strategy and roadmap to create maximum potential for Mass General Brigham to operate efficiently and effectively, whilst also delivering an outstanding employee proposition.

The Digital strategy is centered around the experiences for its four key stakeholders - Patients, Care Teams, Researchers and Employees. The Vice President, Enterprise Systems will lead the Digital Employee Experience portfolio, working in collaboration with the Business Advisors (CHRO and CFO), their teams and the respective platform owners within Digital.

The Business Excellence Program supports Mass General Brigham's 'one system' objective by building an integrated operating model for Enterprise Services for all of MGB across people, process and technology. At its core is the implementation of Workday (replacing Peoplesoft) across the full suite of HR, Payroll, Finance, Supply Chain and Grants Management. Phase 1 of delivery started in October 2022 with a target go live of July 2024. The Vice President, Enterprise Systems will be the senior lead for technology on the Business Excellence Program.

Strategy & Roadmap:

  • As part of the Digital leadership team, contribute to the development of the digital strategy for Mass General Brigham
  • Partner with business leaders to undertake strategic planning and roadmapping for the Enterprise Functions domain and the Enterprise Systems platform, with focus on operational efficiency and delivering an outstanding employee proposition
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to maintain the business capability model and target architecture for the Enterprise Functions domain, working to rationalize systems through consolidation onto strategic platforms in the Cloud
  • Translate the target architecture into technology roadmaps aligned with functional and non-functional strategies and priorities
  • Work with the Digital PMO to secure the funding necessary to deliver the strategy and roadmaps

Supplier Partnerships:
  • Partner with relevant technology companies, including Workday and ServiceNow, to ensure the needs of MGB drive their product roadmaps
  • Manage strategic partnerships within Digital's Supplier Governance framework, including periodic review of vendor performance and alignment with overall enterprise architecture and roadmaps
  • Work with Supply Chain on contract lifecycle activities (negotiations, renewals, audits, etc)

Platform Operations:
  • Manage all aspects of technology operations in alignment with ITIL best practice, including incident, problem & change management and maintaining performance, resilience and patch levels
  • Ensure all platforms, applications and assets are cataloged and maintained and roadmaps reflect lifecycle management
  • Understand and manage the total cost of ownership (TCO) for all platforms and build efficiency improvements into roadmap planning

Platform Governance, Project & Portfolio Management:
  • Manage platform governance, involving key stakeholders across business teams to oversee platform performance, prioritise new demand and review project status
  • Lead the Digital Employee Experience portfolio of investments, working with colleagues across functional and Digital teams to identify and prioritise opportunities to improve employee experience. Support the Digital Investment Board process by delivering roadmaps, tracking delivery progress and spend against budgets and giving visibility to leadership through quarterly 'Deep Dives' and Advisory Committees

Platform Development:
  • Manage the pipeline of new demand, balancing resources, dependencies, budget and risk accordingly
  • Manage projects and programs to deliver new technology or enhancements/upgrades to existing systems and platforms
  • Lead technology evaluations to meet new demand and onboard new technologies as required
  • Manage platform upgrades within risk tolerance and ensuring optimum levels of feature adoption
  • Maintain and enhance systems, including configuration and customization, building and maintaining interfaces, data extracts and reporting
  • Devolve configuration changes to functional process owners where platforms allow and it is safe to do so within agreed guard rails
  • Maintain archive data and retrieval services
  • Adopt Digital best practice development methodologies, including agile where appropriate

People Development:
  • Build a diverse, inclusive team, providing exceptional people leadership in order to create a high performance culture where all staff can reach their potential
  • Inspire the team to play their part in delivering MGB's mission and the underpinning digital strategy, particularly delivering outstanding service to functional colleagues and exceptional experiences to employees and other stakeholders

Finance Management:
  • Manage operating costs within agreed budgets and input into the annual budgeting process
  • Manage project and program costs within allocated budgets


Qualifications
Qualifications
  • Masters' Degree in related field
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience with 7 years of relevant experience leading Enterprise systems or similar senior technology leadership roles

Supervisory and Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Managing $25m operating expense, plus additional project budgets as agreed
  • Manage the Enterprise Functions platform, comprising the ERP (Peoplesoft now, Workday in future), ServiceNow and approximately 30-40 surround systems, some of which are managed within business functions but expected to come under this role over time (or be decommissioned)
  • Directly manage a team of 40-50 staff in various roles including developers, analysts, team managers and project managers
  • Indirectly manage and collaborate with colleagues across Digital
  • Attract and retain qualified talent and provide leadership development, corrective action, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with MGB Digital PMO and Human Resources to assure effective and efficient business practices

Hybrid Work Model

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
  • This position requires onsite days at Assembly Row weekly, generally 3 and as business need requires, and includes local travel to MGB sites, vendors, and/or conferences
  • Hospital work environment working conditions include possible exposure to diseases or infections and may require safety gear (PPE) such as gloves and mask.
  • Normal office working conditions. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear; use hands to finger; handle; or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
