Job Description Summary
This Veterinary Nurse will provide high level patient care to critically ill animals. This is a mid shift, 4 - 10 hour days or negotiable 3- 12 hour days

Job Description

Job Duties:

  • Provide high quality nursing care to hospitalized patients in the ICU

  • Perform all aspects of general and critical care nursing

  • Assist with prioritizing and organizing patient treatments and procedures

  • Update clinicians and staff on patient status and progression

  • Teach fourth year veterinary students and nursing students

  • Assist with training and mentoring of junior nursing staff

    Qualifications:

    Veterinary Technician ICU B has 2-3 years of veterinary emergency/critical care experience.

    Veterinary Technician ICU C has 3-4 years of veterinary emergency/critical care experience.

    Veterinary Technician, ICU D has 5+ years of veterinary emergency and critical care experience.

    Veterinary Technician ICU E has 10+ years of veterinary emergency/critical care experience.

    The job duties are the same for all levels.

  • Certified Veterinary Technician with a minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, must have advanced patient assessment and nursing skills, technical proficiency in venipuncture, cystocentesis, placement of invasive lines (venous, arterial and urinary catheters), Strong critical thinking skills, strong organizational and problem-solving skills and good interpersonal skills.

    Hours:
    Mid shift 2 -12, 4 - 2 or 3 - 12 hour shift negotiable

    Working conditions can be loud and overly crowded.

    Physical effort required: Ability to lift 25-50 pounds consistently, with help. Frequent kneeling, crouching and bending. Standing for prolonged periods of time.
