Description:
Reporting to the Nurse Manager, Recovery Room (PACU), this position assists in maintaining a smooth functioning unit. The Unit Secretary reviews physician orders, answers the telephone, greets and assists people who arrive on the unit, and maintains the desk area as an efficient work area. The Unit Secretary makes phone calls to schedule appointments for patients to be tested prior to their surgery or procedure, and documents the appointment date and answers to screening questions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. This position requires a clear speaking voice and to be personable on the phone. This position requires the flexibility to work earlier or later during the day to meet case volumes.
1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. One (1) year of experience as a secretary in an acute care setting or equivalent experience is required.

3. Completion of a medical terminology course or demonstrated functional competency is required.

4. Computer data entry experience is required.

5. Well-developed interpersonal and phone skills with the ability to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, family, visitors, and physicians is required.

6. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR card is required.
