The Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for a Tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Chemistry beginning Fall 2022. This hiring initiative focuses on the area(s) of Analytical Chemistry/ Instrumental Chemistry. Candidates for this position are expected to strengthen and complement our research in catalysis, bio-analytical, nanoscience, and environmental chemistry. The selected finalist will establish independent research programs that successfully attract extramural funding, actively contribute to departmental development, and engage in innovative teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The position offers excellent start-up funds, salary, and laboratory space, and the department is well equipped with instrumentation (which includes the following major chemistry Instrumentation: Bruker Biospin 600 MHZ NMR, Perkin Elmer Optima 8300 Dv ICP-OES, Perkin Elmer Turbomass Mass Spectrometer, Thermo Scienitific  DSQ II GC-MS/ FID, a Clarius GC-FID, ThermoFisher Ultimate 2000 HPLC, Bruker D2 XRD, a MinifleX II XRD, 2 Perkin Elmer Lambda 950 UV-VIS NIR, 2 Perkin Elmer Frontier FTIR (with ATR, DRIFTS, and standard sampling attachments), Bruker FTIR, Quanta Chrom surface area porosity analyzer, Micrometrics ASAP 2020 surface area porosity analyzed, LS-10 SEM, hand-held RAMAN instrumentation Rigaku First Guard, Bay spec RAMAN spectrometers, Edinburg FLS 980, Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy EleXsys E-500-A console, among other instrumentation)  in a dynamic and highly interactive research environment.

A Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field and postdoctoral experience are required. Applicants should provide evidence of or strong potential for significant productivity in research. Externally funded research and teaching experience are considered a plus. Successful candidates will demonstrate potential for both independent and collaborative research, the ability to involve both undergraduate and graduate students in research activities, and a commitment to educate a diverse body of students in a Hispanic Serving Institution.

About the Department:  The Department of Chemistry along with BCMB program is committed to quality education, community service, and preparing students for graduate work or careers in chemistry, as well as preparing students for admission to the schools of medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.  The department has latest research facilities in chemical and biochemical research and education and is the home to approximately 30 full time faculty and about 400 graduate and undergraduate students. ACS accredited BS degrees are offered in Chemistry, along with graduate degrees at the master's levels. The Department of Chemistry offers a Master of Science (Chemistry) degree, a Master of Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; jointly with Biology) degree, a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degree, a Bachelor of Science degree with teaching certification, a minor in Chemistry, and a minor in Biochemistry. UTRGV is planning to launch in the near future an interdisciplinary PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering, on which the chemistry department will be a key participant.
