Temporary Faculty Position in Music Theory and CelloDept. of Music

Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 8,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The university is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas of Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of Music at Kutztown University is accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Cello beginning Fall 2024. This position can be eligible for rollover and is not a one-year replacement position such as for a sabbatical. The candidate will teach all levels of music theory and aural skills and will provide studio instruction in cello to undergraduate music majors and minors at Kutztown University.

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities; continuing scholarly growth; and service. Required: Masters in Music (degree requirements include Music, Music Performance, Music Education, or a related music field), and a minimum of one academic year of related teaching experience. Preferred: Doctorate in Music. Preference may be given to those with the ability to teach orchestration, arranging, composition, music technology, and/or to teach in distance learning formats. Teaching in distance learning format maybe required. Note: if course/s format would change to hybrid and/or online, it will require successful completion of the Teaching Online Certification Course offered through Kutztown University. Other duties as assigned. The candidate will be expected to maintain and develop the respective string studio in support of the orchestral and chamber music programs at KU. The ideal candidate will be an excellent performer who is committed to teaching and collaboration.

A candidate is required to successfully complete the interview process including demonstration of teaching, and professional string instrument performance ability to be considered a finalist. Recommendation for hiring is required from a majority of the regular, full-time faculty within the department.
