Position Summary:

This position is responsible to lead all aspects of direct materials purchases for WAM to its defined commodities. This position requires close working relationships cross functionally with operations, sales, and engineering. In addition, this responsible to manage the Supplier Master Price Module in PLEX.
Essential Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Scope includes quoting, negotiating, buying, managing the supplier relationships and supplier performance in support of the global supplier roadmap and business requirements.
  • VA / VE orientation.
    • Partnership with Sales & Engineering to develop technical projects that will improve and change our products and present savings (change specifications; remove specific supplier requirements, etc.).
    • Identify and execute savings opportunities, implement sourcing strategies, and quickly execute tasks to realize benefits.
    • Drives cost reduction efforts and ideas through implementation to meet annual targets. Coordinates purchasing activities and cost reduction goals to meet annual targets.
    • Secures initiatives as committed to in the AOP and provides monthly status report.
  • Manages systems and functions for direct materials procurement. Manages Supplier Master Price Module in PLEX
  • Negotiates contracts of direct material suppliers to ensure competitive pricing. Identifies opportunities to leverage the company's volume into advantageous supply agreements.
  • Communicates and meets with suppliers to resolve contract and quality issues, invoice discrepancies, expediting and scheduling. Reconciles invoices issues, facilitates resolution and recommends process changes.
  • Sources new suppliers for direct materials, equipment, parts and / or services. Ensure all active purchase items have an approved source. Identify, manage and implement re-sourcing and multi-sourcing activities
  • Manage PPV, Purchasing Spend plans and financial reporting
  • Identify Market trends, eliminate supply chain threats. Utilize supplier knowledge of market trends. Prepares market analysis reports to assist in establishing cost savings.
  • Supports manufacturing plants with major supply issues.
  • Support supplier quality with rejected material, supplier scorecards, returns. Assist resolution on supplier issues and provides recommendations for new products and / or suppliers.
  • Assist in developing best practices across the purchasing function, advocate and change agent for continuous improvement.
  • Support and adhere to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system
  • Maintain working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Assists internal customers with requests for materials / specifications.

Position Requirements

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from a 4-year accredited university in Engineering, Procurement, or other related field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Global strategic and tactical sourcing experience
  • Contact negotiation skills
  • Ability to positively influence other functional areas to ensure process and policies are adhered to
  • Experience with strategic supplier relationship management
  • Analytical, communication, supply chain metric experience
  • Be willing to travel as required by the customers and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of quality procedures including PPAP, APQP process, pre-awards, and technical reviews is desired
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations is desired.
  • Knowledge of raw material indexes and pricing.
  • Knowledge in all applicable computer software programs (MS Office) and applications required.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Results oriented and driven to establish and meet goals and objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of personnel including customers.
