Job Summary

The primary responsibility for this position is to implement and manage IT Services that support University partners who have unique business practices, such as the Budget Office, Office of Research Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, and Facilities Service. This includes partnering in strategic planning and subsequent implementation of IT projects, as well as the maintenance of reliable, efficient, and optimal IT services. Although this position reports to IT Services and is responsible for ensuring and implementing IT practices that are consistent with the University partners.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically and actively partners with University leadership in establishing IT systems that support University partners' business practices.
  • Develops and implements a strategy for systems, based on University partners' business practices, hardware, software and operating systems.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations on information technology products and services.
  • Informs University partners of significant initiatives within IT Services that would impact their operations.
  • Ensures the delivery of reliable IT services for University partners in a way that is efficient and consistent with common University IT practices, as well as optimal to the operational business.
  • Ensures consistent availability of University partners' applications and systems.
  • Ensures that the Information Systems and technical requirements for University partners coordinate appropriately with hardware infrastructure and software requirement standards within the University.
  • Ensures a unified, integrated, cost-effective Information Systems infrastructure, is mutually beneficial to University partners and IT Services, by keeping current with product and service evaluations across University partners.
  • Ensures common application interface mechanisms and contractor and vendor adherence to established IT Services connectivity and security standards. Maintains and assists with maintaining technical documentation, licensing agreements, specifications, and financial costs on all University partners' software, hardware, and operating systems.
  • Ensures that technical documentation on all University partner's software, hardware, and operating systems is current and appropriate.
  • Leads and triages issues resolving time-critical IT Services issues that impact University partners' operations.
  • Supervises business applications and programing support staff.
  • Schedules assignments and sets priorities for staff.
  • Ensures the professional development of the staff through appropriate training and fosters teamwork among staff.
  • Utilizes thorough understanding of business systems and industry requirements to translate business and user needs into system requirement specifications.
  • Recommends process improvements in existing applications and revises existing system logic difficulties as necessary. Designs, develops, and implements new applications, systems architecture, network systems, and applications infrastructures.
  • Communicates and presents on system enhancements and/or alternatives to colleagues in IT management.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively expanded professional IT experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Oracle and Cloud/SaaS-based applications, and programming languages in an n-tier application production environment, such as HTML, JAVA, and MS SQL Server.
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of, or professional experience with relevant business enterprise applications, such as, e.g. Maximo Archibus, Environmental Health, and Safety Assistant.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Windows and UNIX Operating Systems.

Preferred Competencies
  • Manage complex technical details while balancing the business needs of the client.
  • Work under and meet tight deadlines for multiple and concurrent projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; identify and perceive problems from a University partner's perspective.
