DLBA Naval Architects, formerly Donald L. Blount and Associates, a Division of Gibbs & Cox Maritime Solutions Gibbs & Cox, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos. Specializing in the design, development, construction of high performance yachts, custom sport fishing boats, production boats, commercial, military and law enforcement vessels.
Position Description:

Direct and oversee concept, preliminary, and detailed design and analysis of composite, aluminum, and steel vessels designs for (a) recreational vessels, (b) commercial ships, and (c) U.S. Government craft from 20' to 250' feet in length.

Position Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate is a Naval Architect with extensive small craft design experience. Knowledge and experience with hydrodynamics, stability, structure, propulsion, and auxiliary systems is required, and it is preferred that experience pertain to high performance craft under 250' in length. Provide technical leadership to interdisciplinary teams supporting complex design projects. Lead the development of technical specifications, analysis reports, calculations, and develop designs to meet Specifications and regulatory body requirements (ABS/RINA/LR/ISO/USCG). Research documentation and reports, and summarize findings. Develop status reports, technical reports, documentation, and high level briefings. Perform quality assurance reviews of products such as analyses, calculations and drawings. Manage the work flow through the office to provide resource allocation so that project deadlines are met and the resource utilization meets agreed targets. Lead the Quality Assurance activities within the office for all work product.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be able to quickly obtain a security clearance
  • BS degree or higher in naval architecture, marine engineering, or other related field
  • 5-10 years of related experience all aspects of design of marine vehicles
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member
  • Ability to provide technical guidance to DLBA engineering and design staff
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency in using industry-standard CAD software, including AutoCAD and Rhino
  • Strong analytical skills, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Professional Engineer's License

  • Experience with the design of small craft
  • Shipyard experience
  • Sea Trial experience
  • Personnel supervisory experience
