Position Summary

Description: Install, maintain, diagnose, and perform preventative maintenance and repair for all plant electrical/electronic systems including related pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic, sonic, chemical and optical components. Such systems would include: Machine tool controls, communications, motor control and other plant/office equipment of a complex nature using electronics. In order to perform above, this would include performance of mechanical assembly/disassembly of any components such as Servo Valves, schematics, manuals, records and graphs in addition to the making out of regular forms, reports and requisitions. Visit and attend training offered by the major manufacturers of ITT/Gould's major plant systems, to stay abreast of latest system operation repairs and efficiencies. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities

Tasks:

  • Troubleshoot and maintain electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Incorporate and include task list of Mechanical Maintenance Machine Shop A.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronic unit, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
  • Test electronic unit, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
  • Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry or electronic components using tools or soldering iron.
  • Assemble, test, or maintain circuitry or electronic components, according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools.
  • May train new employees.
  • Follow relevant work instructions and/or SOP.
  • May be required to operate industrial trucks (fork trucks, propane trucks, etc.)

  • Uses the appropriate electronic or manual system to perform the work of the job or department.
  • May use computer systems to enroll in benefits and interact with other company data systems.

Knowledge:
  • Reading, writing, speaking, comprehension and computer skills in the English language, typically developed through high school education or equivalent, with the ability to communicate effectively via all these modes.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer services. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Mathematics- Knowledge of basic arithmetic; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, along with algebra and statistics. Must be able to comprehend the meaning of the calculation.
  • Computer and Electronics- Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Design- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Mechanical- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Physical Abilities:
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Near Vision- The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Reaction Time- The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) or to an error, when it appears.
  • Ability to perceive and interpret information through the senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch at a level considered normal for a healthy adult. Must exhibit good balance.
  • Maximum lifting requirement is 40 lbs.; any material of greater weight must be moved using machinery.

Working Conditions:
  • Must wear required safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, harness.
  • Occasional outdoor exposure to hot, cold, and/or damp weather.
  • Occasional exposure to dusts, fumes, metal chips, and odors from an industrial environment.
  • Position works at heights of 60 ft. plus.

Supervision:

May check the work of subcontractor.

During initial training, the incumbent will require close supervision, with supervisor contact several times per day. After demonstration of sustained full comprehension of work instructions, safety procedures, and general department knowledge, daily contact with supervision may reduce to once or twice per day.
Position Requirements

Training, Certificates or Licenses:
  • See ISO Skill review.

Education Required: Equivalent to high school education plus technical associate program or 2 years of electronics school.

Experience Required: 4+ years of experience in construction or related industry to become familiar with mechanical and electrical equipment and repair techniques.
