Job Summary:

Systems Administrators work, design and manage complex infrastructure and integrated technical services providing the highest levels of availability, reliability, performance and service in support of Miami University's academic, research and business missions.

Duties/Physical Demands:

Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining virtualization, backup and storage management systems.
Perform basic problem management by identifying and implement necessary improvements to prevent incidents from recurring and proposing appropriate next steps (propose new project, etc.) for supporting and administration of operating systems, servers and associated components.
Learn procedures, contacts, etc. for handling service requests, incident resolution (both hardware and software), etc. for services.
Identifies opportunities and develops custom programs and scripts to automate, extract information and perform routine functions and tasks.
Serves as mentor and consultant to Systems Administrators
Develops, validates, and disseminates training plans and standard operating procedures
Perform tier II and III systems administration, configuration and support of the university's Information Technology infrastructure environment. (Incident Management, Service Request, Change Request).
Identify opportunities and develop Linux or Windows programs and shell scripts for system maintenance and user support using appropriate coding languages.
Create, Maintain, Deploy pre-defined Server Images to both virtual and physical hardware
Identifies opportunities, researches and recommends new technologies, processes or models that elevates system operations and support.
Supporting, maintaining and participating in the expansion of the university's Information Technology hardware infrastructure
Using monitoring tools, create checks for performance and stability within the university's Information Technology infrastructure.
Develops, implements and participates in the delivery of performance monitoring and capacity planning services for university's Information Technology infrastructure environment.
Actively engage in and help promote a service excellence approach throughout IT Services
Actively pursue trends in the industry and professional development activities
Active participant in projects as needed involving departmental or cross-functional teams

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field by date of hire and 4 or more years of direct experience
Require 4 years' experience in all of the following:
Installation, upgrades, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and security of server operating systems
Evaluating, customizing and diagnosing server operating system software in a complex and heterogeneous environment
Architectural design of servers and associate subsystems including operating systems, storage, backups, services, monitoring and alerting

Desired Qualifications:

* Experience with Administration of Enterprise Backup Solutions
* Experience with Administration of infrastructure monitoring system
* Experience with Administration of cloud based infrastructure.
* Able to operate at a level that can perform tier III systems administration, configuration and support of the university's complex and heterogeneous Information Technology infrastructure environment (VMware, AWS, Azure)
* Experience with service oriented processes and able to identify deficiencies and execute on improvements (Performance KPIs, Incident Management, Service Requests, Change Requests)
* Ability to Create, Maintain, Deploy predefined machine images for virtual, container and physical infrastructures
* Experience with identifying opportunities, researches and recommends new technologies, processes or models that elevates operations, services and support.
* Experience with developing API integrations into monitoring and management tools, within the university's Information Technology infrastructure and services.
* Functional to advanced understanding of common coding languages e.g. PHP, Python, YAML, JSON, PowerShell
* Industry Certifications Preferred in one or more of the following: VMware, NetApp, Linux+, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Azure, Google Cloud, LEAN, ITIL
