The Sustainability Outreach and Engagement Manager will support Lafayette College's mission of creating a thriving campus community, where the three pillars of sustainability; environmental stewardship, economic prosperity, and social equity are integrated into academics, operations, and social values. The manager will develop and deploy outreach and engagement strategies that advance our sustainability priorities. The manager will demonstrate success managing programs and facilitating adoption of practices and behaviors among students, faculty and staff that promote a pronounced culture of sustainability. The position will require creativity, successful collaboration and relationship building, strong communication and marketing skills, and a focus on high impact, transformational change. In addition to the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, the ideal candidate will see the intersection between social and environmental justice and will embed justice into programming and outreach efforts. The position reports to the Director of Sustainability and is a key member of the Office of Sustainability.

About Office of Sustainability The Office of Sustainability leads Lafayette College in advancing sustainability initiatives, transforming innovative ideas into meaningful solutions, and cultivating a culture committed to building a just, equitable world. We do this work through providing thought leadership, policy creation and program execution, outreach and event planning, communications and storytelling, and measuring Lafayette's sustainability performance and progress. Generally, our work has been focused on 5 main themes: carbon neutrality, sustainable food loop, environmental justice, regenerative ecosystems, and circularity. The Office of Sustainability also oversees Lafayette College's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2035. We partner with students, faculty, staff and alumni in the pursuit of accelerating the just transition to a low carbon future. We hope you'll join us.

This position will:

1). Lead the development, implementation and improvement of engagement programs, projects, initiatives and associated budgets (35%)

Develop, implement and manage new and existing engagement programs aimed at operationalizing sustainability priorities and building a culture of sustainability; develop metrics-based strategies that identify and prioritize audience(s) and create compelling engagement pathways for individual, departmental, divisional, building, and campus- wide participation in sustainability programs; evaluate, report on and improve current programs. Programs include Sustainable Office Program, Eco-Reps Program, Sustainable Living Certificate, Green Move Out/In etc.

2) Lead sustainability marketing and communications (20%) Build a strategy for awareness and recognition of Lafayette's sustainability brand, leadership, progress and overall story; lead communicating and marketing sustainability efforts and initiatives. The manager will promote sustainability-related stories by developing and curating content for the sustainability website, social media, newsletter(s), and other publications, including an annual sustainability report, and will enhance and monitor the impact of outreach efforts across various internal and external audiences, including alumni, faculty, staff, students, and prospective students.

3) Coordinate events that promote sustainability and engage target audiences (15%) The manager will coordinate activities and events across multiple divisions of the College, including academic, administrative, campus life, alumni relations, admissions, student involvement, plant operations, facilities planning, and residential life, and will collaborate with the Director of Sustainability and Communications to help to promote sustainability efforts and special events. This includes but is not limited to Sustainability Committee Meetings, Earth Month, Game Day Challenge, Reunion weekend and other regularly scheduled events that support college sustainability efforts and priorities.

4) Develop strategy and manage student leadership development and engagement programs (25%) The manager will provide structure and support to student groups and Office of Sustainability student staff, interns, and Eco-Reps by way of mentoring student leaders into sustainability change agents; oversee recruitment, training, mentoring and supervision in support of developing professional skill sets, and encouraging involvement from all educational majors; support curricular and co-curricular student projects; promote collaboration as the students work to implement initiatives across campus.

Education and Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience is required. A bachelor's degree is required. Master's in business, communication or environmental science/policy is preferred. Leadership experience in environmental and sustainability initiatives at the undergraduate or graduate level is desired. The Sustainability Outreach and Engagement Manager will also possess an enthusiasm for promoting sustainability initiatives to a wide range of audiences and via various mediums, an ability to collaborate and share information, and an interest in guiding student groups and initiatives.

Skills and Abilities: Required - Strong interpersonal skills, working with diverse groups of individuals and building partnerships. Ability to work independently, to be a team leader and to work as a team member. Demonstrated understanding of behavior change strategy. Demonstrated experience designing and delivering scalable community engagement programs, either among student or employee groups, including establishing strong program partnerships to drive participation. Strong organizational, time management and project management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects of various types at different stages with emphasis on accuracy and meeting milestones and deadlines. Demonstrated problem solving with attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated experience in engaging and building communities online through web campaigns, engagement portals, and other promotional materials. Strong communication skills including writing, researching, and public speaking. Ability to manage a complex and often competing set of priorities in a results-oriented environment

Preferences - Top candidates will demonstrate experience with successful marketing and communication campaigns. Additionally, WordPress or website management skills, social media skills and marketing/fundraising experiences are highly valued. Experience with basic graphic design programs like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign are expected. Knowledge of Tableau is a plus.
