Our Malvern, PA headquarters location is searching for a Sustainability Director.

PQ is seeking a Sustainability Director to further strengthen its sustainability/ESG programs, which are an increasingly important element to the company's mission.

In this newly created role, the Sustainability Director will be responsible for developing and managing sustainability programs for PQ globally, and to lead the process for setting new sustainability targets and goals for the company.

Responsibilities

    • Lead the process for setting new sustainability strategy for PQ, including establishing new targets and goals for the company.
    • Manage sustainability data collection and improve utilization of EHS/Sustainability software platforms; provide sustainability data reporting to the executive team.
    • Design and manage the process for creating and publishing an annual sustainability report.
    • Participate in Business Development conversations with customers/partners, and serve as sustainability subject matter expert with customers. Work with the Commercial team to support customer requests for collaboration.
    • Manage the company's submission of data to Ecovadis, support customers' requests via Ecovadis, and coordinate responsed to customer questionnaires.
    • Work with Procurement leaders to analyze expand sustainable procurement initiatives, and with Operations to improve environmental performance and energy efficiency.
    • Lead the development of company strategies related to climate, including a climate strategy and disclosure.
    • Select and direct suppliers providing sustainability services.
    • Direct and oversee external experts on Life Cycle Analysis to complete LCAs and eco-profiles for the company's processes. Help define LCA boundaries and identify data sources to feed into the LCA, collaborate with 3rd parties to accelerate progress and deliver credible LCAs that can be shared with stakeholders.
    • Engage the PQ employee base on the company's sustainability strategy and programs by creating and delivering effective communication and training programs.
    • Represent the company in interactions with external stakeholders such as NGOs, community organizations, and government policymakers on topics related to Sustainability.



Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Engineering, Chemistry or Environmental Science from an accredited institution is required. An advanced degree such as MS in engineering/science discipline or MBA is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

Must have at least 10 years of professional work experience, including at least 3 years managing programs related to Environmental Regulatory Compliance or Sustainability, preferably in a manufacturing company or consulting firm.

Candidates with experience in environmental permitting, environmental regulatory affairs, carbon footprint reporting under Greenhouse Gas Protocol/CDP Scope 1 and 2, EHSQ software, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and Life Cycle Analysis work are highly preferred.

Skills

Candidates should be confident public speakers, able to interact with external parties, champion sustainability, and represent the company's brand.

Teamwork and collaboration are important, along with the initiative to enhance programs and get buy-in from leadership for new projects.

The Sustainability Director must be detail oriented and technically strong. Should have a broad understanding of commercial, regulatory and emerging issues and trends in areas related to chemicals, energy, carbon/GHG, as well as working knowledge of US and EU laws and regulations related to environment, health, safety and sustainability.

Also important is a strong ability to lead via influence, persuasion, negotiation, and effective communications across all levels of the organization, from front-line technicians to the CEO.

Location and Working Conditions:

Role is located in the U.S. The role will require travel occasionally to PQ locations and partner facilities, as well as industry events, in U.S. and internationally. Role can be based in Joliet, IL or Malvern, PA
