Stetson University joined the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment on June 15, 2007, as a signatory and Charter Member. This commitment showed Stetson's dedication to operate sustainably, reduce campus greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change. Environmental responsibility is a core value that the Stetson University campus community holds. We aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, and to achieve this goal, we have committed to gaining the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) Gold status by 2030.
To achieve these goals, Stetson University requires a campus-wide Sustainability and Resilience Coordinator. The Sustainability and Resilience Coordinator will be responsible for developing, promoting, documenting, and reporting key sustainability and resilience initiatives across the institution through cross-institutional partnerships among students, staff, faculty, and administration. Although the position will be housed in the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience, the Sustainability and Resilience Coordinator must be able to communicate and work effectively across all relevant sectors of the University.
The Coordinator must be an extremely well-organized and self-directed individual who is a quick learner, a team player, and an excellent writer and oral communicator. They must be able to effectively collaborate with and contribute to a professional team of staff engaged in dynamic planning and mission-oriented action. The Coordinator must also be willing and able to serve as a professional mentor for a revolving team of undergraduate student workers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
Work Environment: About 50% of the position will involve desk-based office work. Approximately 25% of the position will involve meetings with students, faculty, and others at the Stetson campus and/or through virtual technologies. Approximately 15% of the position will involve visits to facilities and projects on-campus. The remaining 10% of the position will involve external communication, including some need for travel. The position is suitable for a flexible work environment, but the Director should plan on spending at least 50-60% of the average work week on campus.
