ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists with the trial/acquisition/implementation of products/equipment/technology.
  • In collaboration with Materials Management, works with clinicians to identify needs and obtain best products
  • In collaboration with Surgical Services education team, ensures a procedure and equipment competency is written on all new, updated and trial equipment prior to use
  • Verifies that safety information is provided to staff prior to use of new equipment
  • Collaborates with Clinical Engineering to promote the expedite repair of any malfunctioning equipment
  • Updates surgeons and staff on the status of malfunctioning equipment that is under repair/replacement
  • Facilitated by vendor expertise/product standards, ensures that the multidisciplinary Surgical Services team is educated on new or existing products/equipment/technology.
  • Evaluates product and technology use by analyzing utilization and provider feedback.
  • Collaborates with Surgical Services staff to obtain special order products and equipment
  • Receives purchase requisitions and verifies for accuracy and authorization.score: N/A

  • Coordinates arrival of special order equipment, ensuring it is processed prior to arrival in the OR

  • Reviews and updates in conjunction with the Inventory Manager, all Materiel's Management inventory reorder lists.score: N/Asco

  • Maintains oversight across service lines on shared products and equipment


  • Performs clinical consultations on all new products; interfacing with physicians, staff, vendors to ensure a thorough evaluation process occurs.
  • Ensures each new product request is processed in a timely manner. Notifies requestor of undue delays, backorders and purchase status if warranted.
  • Assists in the completion and reviews all new product requests forms.
  • Oversees the evaluation of new products as applicable. Sets up trials, identifies physician champions, monitors response to the product, ensures evaluation forms are completed and collates the data.
  • Meets with all new surgeons to identify equipment needs and collect preference cards when applicable.
  • Interacts with medical staff to obtain accurate details, ensuring appropriate products for surgical cases are available.
  • Makes recommendations for new equipment purchases and provides data analysis reports to support recommendations.
  • Provides research material by use of internet/continuing education or networking.
  • Advises Surgeons of the arrival of new equipment and initiates in-services in a timely manner
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with physicians and staff to standardize or evaluate new devices and technology

  • Orders, maintains inventories, tracks and manages implants.
  • Ensures appropriate implants and grafts are available for surgical bookings.
  • Coordinates product changes, substitutions or recalls on biological/non-biological implants
  • Monitors the outdates on all biological implants
  • Works in conjunction with Laboratory leadership to evaluate new products
  • Provides support and works in collaboration with Risk Management for all Surgical Services implant recalls.
  • In collaboration with Surgical Services Revenue Analyst, verifies accurate recording and billing of biological/non-biological implants.
  • Ensures that the implant tracking log is complete and the process meets all regulatory requirementsscore: N/A
  • Responsible for collaboration on Value Analysis activities throughout Surgical Services
  • Assists CQVA with profitability studies when applicable
  • Consistently identifies opportunities for cost savings and unnecessary waste.
  • Is readily available to service coordinators/Surgical Services leadership and surgeons to assist in their analysis and evaluation of products and technologies.
  • Implements and ensures optimal standardization use of selected products in collaboration with staff and Surgeons
  • Researches superior products, analyzes best practice concepts and utilizes this information make recommendations
  • Collaborates with the Surgical Services Value Analysis team and follows up on open agenda items

  • Interfaces with Vendors
  • Greets, introduces, arranges orientation for all Vendors associated with Surgical Services
  • Maintains professional relationships with Vendors
  • Ensures compliance with Vendor/Sales Rep/Contractors credential checklist. Compliant with Joint Commission requirements.
  • Assists service specific leads with service maintenance
  • Collaborates on surgeon Preference Card management
  • Maintaining stock of specialty cart items not supported by Materials Management
  • Facilitating interdepartmental case specific needs i.e. incoming supplies, implants or equipment


  • Qualifications

    • Experience Minimum Required
        • Five Years Clinical / Surgical Service Healthcare Materiel's Management Experience
    • Experience Preferred/Desired
        • Ten Years Clinical / Surgical Service Experience
    • Education Minimum Required
        • OR Surgical Technologist Experience or OR RN Experience
    • Education Preferred/Desired
        • Bachelor of Nursing or Degree Healthcare Administration
    • Training Minimum Required
        • Five Year OR Surgical Technologist Experience OR OR RN Expierience
    • Training Preferred/Desired
        • Materiel's Management Healthcare Supply Chain Management in Surgical Service areas.
    • Special Skills Minimum Required
        • Microsoft Office Experience
    • Special Skills Preferred/Desired
        • Supply Chain Purchasing Technology Experience
    • Licensure and/or Certifications Required
