Occ Summary

Perform a variety of technical, environmental, a nd patient care dutiesunder the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse . These duties areperformed in accordance with established hospital and nursing policyand within the legal scope of practice for the unlicensed caregiver.


Work Performed

Level IVerify patient loca tion and identification.Transferand/or assist patients during transport, following departmental safetyguidelines.Communicate with patients and r espond to patientneeds promptly, satisfy needs or refer their requests t oappropriate personnel.Keep charge nurse informed of room statusand atte ndant availability.Assist in the orientation of newstaff as requested by nurse manager or designee.Provideemergency assistance as required and/o r directed by surgeon and/ornursing personnel.Transport specimen, equipm ent, etc. toappropriate area in safe and efficient manner.According to t heplan of care developed by the RN, deliver patient care appropriate tot he age of the patients served.Successfully complete annualself-instructi onal unit regarding age appropriate care for the infant,toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatricpatients.Prepare the unit for cases/ proc edures utilizingfunctional equipment and supplies.Assist with positionin g thepatient and follow accepted procedures for preparation of patients forsurgical procedures.Assist with wraps, casts, anddressings.Route non- functional equipment to proper maintenancedepartment for repair, noting onequipment what the malfunction appearsto be.Assist in minor maintenan ce functions (i.e. replace lightbulbs in power sources and surgical ligh ts).Set up andtroubleshoot all equipment in service line and 85% of all equipment inother services.Accurately and safely use all patientposition ing devices and tables.Clean equipment, tables andfloor as required with proper cleaning solution.Collect, bagand remove soiled linen and trash properly.Replace suctionliners, trash bags and other supplies as needed. Return cleanedequipment to appropriate area after the case.Stock and mai ntainadequate levels of supplies at scrub sink and sub rooms asappropria te.Maintain orderly work environment by keepingoperating rooms, storage areas, hallways and all units clean, tidyandhazard free.Obtain and main tain unit supplies andequipment.Level IIPerform all duties of Level I in addition to the following:Serve as a resource and role modelfor Surgical Attendants and others.Provide leadership andguidance to Surgical Attend ants under the direction of anRN.Assist with daily assignments in cooper ation with unitmanagement representatives.Cooperate in planning orientat ion ofnew Surgical Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefee dback to management representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew e mployees.Serve as a resource and role model for SurgicalAttendants and o thers.Provide leadership and guidance toSurgical Attendants under the di rection of an RN.Assist withdaily assignments in cooperation with unit m anagementrepresentatives.Cooperate in planning orientation of newSurgica l Attendants, under the supervision of an RN.Providefeedback to manageme nt representative regarding orientation/ skills ofnew employees.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Level IBasic mechanical kno wledge for assembly of equipment andthe ability to comprehend and follow instructions.Knowledge ofsterile technique.Physical abilities to comple te job dutieswhich include heavy lifting, prolonged sitting, standing, a nd walking,ability to push, pull climb, stoop/kneel, reach overhead and rotatetrunk for prolonged periods.Level IISame as Level I plusleadership skills


Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires basic mechanical knowledge for assembly of equipment and the ability to comprehend and follow instructions normally acquired through a partial high school education.


Experience

Level I experience. experience. Level II Six months experience in a hospital setting or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or Three years experience as Surgical Attendant I, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Level I Level II Current BCLS certification. Same as Level I plus, currently listed as a Nursing Assistant (NAI) with the North Carolina Division of Facilities Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property (preferred but not required).
