Supervisor Assembly Maintenance (Skilled Trades)

Opportunity

Directly supervises ANE Electrical Technicians and Hourly Electricians and Mechanics for all engine and generator assembly operations and is responsible for tactical and strategic planning & execution of the scheduled and unscheduled Maintenance activities.  This includes operational and project requirements to meet daily operational needs, planned events, or capacity additions.  This person will also fully utilize the work order system for emergency, planned and project work orders.  Will assign personnel as required, and measure effectiveness to targets on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.  Will also work closely with facilities, engineering, and operations to understand planned project needs, work order accuracy, and monitors backlog priorities and material requirements to support open and planned events.  This position will also be reviewing and identifying training needs and requirements, building on talent development to current and planned processes, equipment, and technology to ensure staffing is accurate, effective, and doing so in a safe manner.  The position will require both planned and unplanned events, so driving accountability, urgency, and accuracy based on the need will be key to a successful operation.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor equipment conditions and act accordingly to meet plant production goals.  Strive toward inventory repair component alignment with Production and Maintenance requirements. Work with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production to ensure equipment reliability, both through proper usage of equipment, Preventative Maintenance measures, needed repair time and activity, and also recommendations for needs beyond repair. Work with internal customers using SAP generated reporting to review and maintain effective and accurate tracking of maintenance labor tracking, equipment repair and repair components required.
  • Managerial responsibilities include providing supervision and support to Maintenance Team consisting of all first shift maintenance Team members.  Complete daily supervisory duties related to Team members including payroll, disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.  Recognize support needs of staff, recommend and work to provide training opportunities. Ensure team operates with a true customer support focus and a sense of urgency in all assignments.
  • Initiate planning for resources and materials for all work orders, ensuring timely correction of potential machine issues/breakdowns and planned work order dates.  Arrange expedited shipping if required to minimize the production impact of equipment downtime.  Review orders and make recommendations for stocking of items to internal customers.  Complete and process work orders real time.   
  • Cost savings opportunities - Review repeat issues in which potential cost savings to the plant can be realized in terms of labor and repair parts.  Manage and monitor plant repairable spares and tooling program for plant cost savings.  Insure optimal machine parts are used for the correct operational application.
  • Projects - Maintain detailed involvement in all engineering/plant production automation and process improvement projects.  Insure correct equipment specifications are used, qualified contractors and components are planned ahead as well as labor resource to meet schedule needs.
  • Equipment restoration - Utilize predictive maintenance tools including vibration analysis, ultrasonic monitoring and MTBF reports to evaluate equipment retrofits and TPM restoration events.  The operation must become more reliable every year as a result of these proactive activities.
  • Facility Systems - in conjunctions with the Facilities team, ensure working knowledge of all Plant 2 systems, switchgear, air compressors, fire protection, etc. and members of the team are versed and knowledgeable of all systems and functions.  Use predictive maintenance, OEM's and constant monitoring to prevent unplanned failure.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Demonstrated Experience leading technical resources of different disciplines in an industrial environment
  • Recognize the equipment life cycle management in the business relationship with Engineering, Maintenance and Production having equal influence on equipment reliability.  
  • Exhibit ability to build detailed project plans, including time, resource requirements, budget and deliverables.  Demonstrate assistance in capture/creation of a project scope, achievement of original project milestones and timeframes, and leadership of single location projects.
  • Embrace continuous improvement and apply best in class practices.  Display adaptability and flexibility to change, seek resources to support change and apply KOS principles.  Share the learning with peers and cross functional associates.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Manger - Maintenance and Facilities, Hattiesburg Campus
  • Responsible and supervises all hourly and administrative non-exempt positions in maintenance for assembly operations on all shifts.

Organization Relationships:

  • Frequent contact with Hattiesburg Operational Leaders to explain short- and long-term projects in detail.
  • Frequent contact with Operations and Quality to solve daily manufacturing problems.
  • Frequent contact with the Hattiesburg Leadership team.
  • Occasional contact with Outside support teams, both from Kohler and contractors for long-term projects at higher level scope.
  • Occasional contact with Corporate Legal and Purchasing Groups for procurement of capital equipment.

External Business Relationships:

  • Frequent contact with machine tool builders and other equipment suppliers to discuss projects and follow up on warranty issues.
  • Occasional contact with suppliers to verify their manufacturing process produces raw material and finished component's compatible with the Engine Division's processes and equipment.

Skills/Requirements

Bachelor's degree in maintenance management, operations, business or engineering or an Associate's degree in an industrial discipline with adequate demonstrated work experience.

  • Proficient in use of all common computer Microsoft Office software applications including Outlook, Access and MS Project.  SAP experience is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with SAP/Work Brain preferred.
