Position Summary

The Division of Business and Financial Affairs is responsible for ensuring a safe, productive campus environment while providing the highest quality service in support of academic excellence through thoughtful stewardship of financial, technological, infrastructure, and human resources at San Diego State University.

The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is responsible for planning, providing, and administrating housing services and facilities for over 8,000 students. This includes the operation of residence halls and apartments, offcampus housing, and conferences. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office while providing the business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student's educational experience. The OHA staff consists of approximately 21 employees and generates annual residence hall revenues exceeding $100,000,000.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Administration, the Student Accounts Coordinator is responsible for working directly with parents and students on account receivables, payment process explanation, and coordination of OHA-related billing payment and collection issues with Student Account Services. Works with the Operating Systems Analyst/Programmer to ensure the StarRez links with Financial Aid, Aztec Shops, and Student Account Services systems are operating accurately.

The Student Accounts Coordinator is a member of the Office of Housing Administration team. In conjunction with the Director, Associate Directors, other managers, staff, and students, this position assists in carrying out the mission, vision, and values, of the Office of Housing Administration and is responsible for supporting and contributing to an atmosphere that facilitates respect, inclusivity, collaboration, and growth.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Must be able to interpret and apply a wide variety of written rules and regulations; maintain accounting records for funds, programs, or activities involving multiple transactions; compile, verify, and reconcile financial data; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; investigate and resolve errors and discrepancies, and read and interpret computer-generated reports.

Experience: Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience which has provided the above knowledge and abilities.

Education: Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft and/or ASCOT and working in Higher Education and/or University environments with parents and students.

  • Graduate Degree in Finance or MBA may substitute for up to 3 years of experience

Specialized Skills

  • Responsibilities of this position are performed on an independent level.

  • Thorough knowledge of university and housing billing, payment and collection procedures, and application.

  • Strong organizational, research, and problem-solving skills, evidenced by independent application of work skills and accounting knowledge in prior work experience and ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations.

  • Experience with ASCOT and Oracle and the ability to use personal computer technology, such as spreadsheets and word processing to investigate and resolve errors and discrepancies.

  • Thorough understanding of the interrelationships and interdependencies of the various software applications and systems used by and with StarRez.

  • Ability to organize large volumes of detailed transactions, plan for peak loads, and maintain productive work conditions and relationships with others.

  • Patience and a businesslike, courteous manner are required in working with students, parents, and University departments.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,500 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,532 - $6,198 per month.

SDSU COVID-19 Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
