Meet the team:

The R&D Mechanical Engineering Design Team is responsible for the feasibility and development of next-generation products at Dexcom. We're seeking a cross-functionally disciplined engineer with subject matter expertise across mechanics, materials, and electronic wearable devices to design and characterize technologically advanced products for high volume production. Positioned within the Mechanical Engineering team, this is a high visibility, high impact role in achieving Dexcom's product performance and reliability goals through delivering functional excellence in the research, development, and characterization of enabling technologies/designs & their integration to a product ecosystem.

Where you come in:

  • As a technical leader in the mechanical engineering characterization team, you will deliver, lead, and own the design, testing, packaging, and system integration for the mechanical engineering function for a product.
  • You will integrate designs effectively with the rest of the product sub-systems to achieve a successful launch that meets reliability, cost, and performance targets.
  • You identify, communicate, and address mechanical tradeoffs with other subsystems and solve integration challenges as part of cross-functional working teams.
  • You will lead and own technical problem solving for mechanical systems
  • You will develop and manage strong relationships and enhance communication with upstream technology research teams and downstream product development process recipients (Design Verification, Operations, Commercial) to enable end-to-end concurrent engineering as a keystone of product design, in collaboration with project management, and product owner teams.

What makes you successful:
  • You have extensive design and testing experience in the medical device or consumer electronics industry, working in a high-volume market.
  • You bring depth of engineering knowledge and system integration experience in a multidisciplinary product ecosystem (examples below)
    • Product design and integration of multiphysics devices (E.g. electromechanical devices, wearables, biosensors, etc.).

      • Interface and interconnect design for component integration
      • Materials and methods for electronics protection
      • Design for usability and human factors considerations
      • Component and subassembly vendor/supplier capabilities assessment and partnership development
    • Injection molding and/or design for injection molded components, including materials and polymer chemistry familiarity
  • You have a track record of delivering technical excellence, meeting timelines for development, translating technology to design at scale, and executing projects as a technical leader with regular visibility to senior management.
  • You thrive in environments where there is ambiguity or uncertainty in product requirements and have a willingness to try and test new ideas, coupled with a track record of success in innovation and intellectual property development in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • You exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
  • You have a proven ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data to generate insights and conclusions
  • You have excellent communication (written and verbal), collaboration, personal interaction and liaison skills.
  • For you, engineering excellence is a top priority, and you achieve that not only through your work but influence that in collaboration with others as well
  • You have experience utilizing structured problem solving/root cause investigation methodologies to de-bug and solve complex high volume design and assembly challenges

What you'll get:
  • A front row seat to life changing CGM technology. Learn about our brave #dexcomwarriors community.
  • A full and comprehensive benefits program.
  • Growth opportunities on a global scale.
  • Access to career development through in-house learning programs and/or qualified tuition reimbursement.
