Everlaw is looking for a rock star Staff Accountant to join our rapidly growing accounting team. As a Staff Accountant at Everlaw, you will own and develop our cash, fixed assets, and accrual accounting processes to help scale an organization that is doing meaningful work in the industry, valuing truth and helping our users discover it.

Finance holds several distinct responsibilities critical to the healthy functioning of the company. Accounting safeguards our company's assets and ensures our financial statements are in accordance with GAAP. FP&A acts as the analytical voice to the business and works with business leaders to develop long-term strategies and plans. Procurement stewards the selection of vendors and ensures proper vendor onboarding and payment. Treasury invests our cash that is not needed for operations, protecting our financial trajectory. In all of our efforts, we aim to provide a lens into the financial underpinnings of Everlaw so our company can make informed data-driven decisions as we continue to grow.

This is a full-time position based in our Oakland, California office with a hybrid work schedule: in office M/W/Th with the option to work from home Tu/Fr.

Getting started

    • We want you to feel like part of the team early on! Our onboarding process will integrate you into the company with informative sessions on our product, policies, processes, and team structure and goals.
    • We're excited for you to learn, grow, and contribute right away! We trust that you'll bring experience and knowledge that will uplift and uplevel the team, but we don't expect you to know everything on Day 1.


In your role, you'll...
    • Perform monthly and annual close tasks, including but not limited to - balance sheet reconciliations, expense allocations, and overall flux analysis focusing on Fixed Assets, Cash and Accrued expenses.
    • Own the Fixed asset accounting process, including Fixed asset register maintenance, ensuring proper recording of purchases and disposals, and maintaining depreciation and amortization schedules within Netsuite.
    • Own the cash accounting processes such as daily cash accounting balancing, monthly bank reconciliation, bank transmission problems, daily cash receipt issues, identify debit/credits, investigating unidentified receipts, and return checks.
    • Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure completeness and accuracy of accruals and other contingent liabilities.
    • Support for implementing company-wide internal control compliance, leading to improved processes and safeguarding company assets.
    • Be an integral player in identifying areas for continuous improvement to help make our department and Company run smoother and more efficiently.
    • Support annual financial statements and statutory audits.


About you
    • You have a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
    • You have at least 3 years of progressive experience in private and/or public accounting.
    • You have an active CPA license or are actively working towards one.
    • You are organized and able to thrive in a fast paced environment, including the ability to learn prioritization through experience and rapid priority shifts.
    • You are a self-reliant problem solver able to determine root cause and corrective action for areas you are responsible for.
    • You are able to take direction in many forms and apply judgment to resolve in the best manner possible. You love learning new things and believe that anything can be accomplished through dedication and hard work.
    • You have a positive mindset and truly believe that obstacles are simply opportunities in disguise.
    • You are authorized to work in the United States; please note that at this time, Everlaw is not sponsoring visas for any positions.


Pluses
    • You have expert-level experience in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel.
    • You have experience working in a large ERP (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) environment.
    • You have experience working in a fast-growing startup environment.
