The Senior Systems Administrator oversees system installations, monitors and maintains the IT servers, and evaluates new server hardware and software. Additionally, this employee manages a team that performs system monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and issue escalation to maintain system performance and meet user demand.
Department Specific Functions
1. Manages College of Arts and Sciences Windows and Linux servers supporting academic, administrative and research initiatives.
2. Deploying and managing applications and services on Windows servers, such as IIS, SQL Server, and Exchange Server.
3. Installs, configures, and maintains Linux servers and distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).
4. Manages user accounts, permissions, and access controls on Linux systems.
5. Monitors system performance, identifies and resolves performance bottlenecks, and optimizes system resources.
6. Implements and maintains security measures, such as firewalls, SELinux, and intrusion detection systems.
7. Manages and troubleshoots network services and protocols, such as DNS, DHCP, SSH, and NFS.
8. Deploys and manages web servers (e.g., Apache, Nginx), database servers (e.g., MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL), and other applications on Linux and/or Windows systems.
9. Conducts regular market research to identify competitive pricing and cost-saving opportunities.
10. Collaborates with vendors/suppliers to explore innovative solutions, products, or services that align with organizational objectives.
