Sr. Research Program Coordinator
The Center for Health Care Human Factors at the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality is seeking a Senior Research Program Coordinator to support research projects aimed at improving quality and safety of health care and safety of health care professionals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with study team to assure that study deliverables and report schedules are met as required by the granting agency; track completion of assigned tasks; and any other duties as needed.
  • Assist program manager with management of project implementation and data collection.
  • Act as liaison between the AI Center for Health Care Human Factors, clinical staff, and other project partners/stakeholders.
  • Conduct literature review and summarize findings.
  • Lead in the preparation of study protocols and materials and other essential study functions.
  • Recruit study participants.
  • Schedule interviews and collect qualitative data through observations, interviews and focus groups with care professionals and clinicians in health care settings such as ED, Operating room and home healthcare.
  • Assist in the analysis and management of qualitative and basic quantitative data.
  • Assist with the writing and development progress reports, study tools and documents, meeting minutes, and help lead meetings and conference calls with study team and various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other members of project group to develop and improve team-based approaches to the project work plan.
  • Assist with organizing project meetings and conference calls.
  • Track completion of assigned tasks and any other duties as needed.
  • Assist with development of project-related manuscripts, presentation slides, written reports, etc.
  • Edit quality/safety improvement tools and documents.
  • Help lead synthesis of project-related activities, and help with other relevant work as needed (e.g., preparation for presentations, conferences, etc.)


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline required
  • Master's preferred. Candidates with PhD, MD and other advanced degrees welcome to apply.
  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in a related field (e.g. health services research, project management/coordination).
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in research projects.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize tasks, and delivers timely outcomes
  • Effective team management and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Interest in research on healthcare quality and safety improvement is preferred. Any interest/ background in human factors, systems science, safety science is a plus. Previous experience/background in infection prevention preferred.
  • Some expertise and experience in research processes and methodologies including qualitative and quantitative research methods is preferred.
  • Experience in data collection protocols and IRB protocol preparation is a plus.

Starting Salary Range: $39,310 - $54,060 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
