Department Information

Indiana University's Office of Online Education (OOE) is responsible for protecting and maintaining the academic integrity of an IU degree, facilitating collaborative opportunities presented by online education, and utlizing IU's scale, resources, reputation, and diversity of offerings to expand online education offerings to students located in Indiana, as well as nationally and internationally. OOE oversees growth and development of more than 200 online degree and certificate programs that to date enroll in excess of 10,000 students annually.

Alongside OOE, the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs (OCAP) facilitates engagement and coordination of collaborative degree program creation amongst participating IU campuses. OCAP also works closely with chancellors, faculty, and administrators to oversee, encourage and provide tools for the assurance and maintenance of high quality online and distance education courses and programs at an institutional level.

Job Summary

The Sr. Program Manager reports to the Interim Director for the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs. This role is part of a strategic team to scale enrollments in online programs across multiple campuses by providing management, strategy, and resources to maintain, support, and enhance academic program quality and experiences which support program enrollments, student perseverance, and graduation.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Supports online, collaborative Business degree programs in the Schools of Business & Economics on the IU East, IU South Bend, IU Kokomo, IU Southeast, and IU Northwest campuses. May support other online professional programs.
  • Leverages excellent communication and program management abilities to build rapport, consensus, and bridge faculty, university leadership, and staff professional partnership.
  • Facilitates collaboration and meaningful communication with stakeholders; listens to and evaluates stakeholder needs.
  • Provides strategic assessment and guidance in support of holistic online program quality and offerings, from marketing input to student service supplementation to curricular change support, to align IU Online will online education industry standards and best practices.
  • Relays knowledge of best practices, policy, enrollment management practices, and student experience recommendations. Identifies barriers and resource needs and advocates with appropriate individuals to bring resolution.
  • Works with OOE staff, program faculty, and instructors to develop, refine and enforce policies and procedures for online program development and maintenance, and to ensure effective and efficient operation of online programs, enrollment management, and student services across all IU campuses.
  • Prepares reports, audits, and reference documentation for census, sponsorship, and/or change management and circulates/moderates feedback for review and approval. Keeps well-informed with higher education industry topics, innovations, and system utilization specific to online education, digital teaching and learning, and modern learner needs.
  • Ensures online degrees are compliant with all federal, state and accreditor regulations for collaborative academic programs and online education at IU, especially with state mandates on transfer (STGEC, SAP, Military Second Service, Credential Engine).
  • May prepare Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) new degree proposal forms.
  • May manage collaborative degree proposals through institutional degree approval processes at all levels (school, campus, university), as well as accreditors ICHE and the Higher Learning Commission.
  • Supports program review and assessment of online courses for quality and compliance, including application of the Quality Matters rubric.
  • Represents OOE and OCAP in interactions and collaborations with other university offices. Represents IU, academic program portfolio, and OOE to external stakeholders such as the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission, as well as at national conferences, seminars, and professional development events.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define educational resources methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority educational resources projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase educational resources initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources for the area of educational resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale educational resources projects with a wide audiences in support of academic initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry educational resources standards, technologies, procedures, and metrics; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Works collaboratively with other educational resources leaders across departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to educational resources.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Master's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years in related field
  • 1 year of management experience in related field
Preferred
  • Experience supporting higher education curricular and academic best practices, academic policy knowledge and interpretation, and/or instruction in a higher education setting

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Employees with an approved remote work arrangement should plan to attend in-person business events and meetings, held 4-6 times/year (subject to change). Candidate proximity to south-central and central Indiana is desirable.

Work Location

This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Advertised Salary

$82,000-$86,000 a year
