General Purpose:

Interface with Mideast Area (MEA) field staff and office staff and coordinate discussions on milk quality issues, program compliance, and weight variances with customers. Oversee implementation of member services processes and policies in the MEA. Show strong leadership when managing MEA milk quality by identifying milk quality issues using a variety of data analytics and discussing implications and courses of action to improve member milk quality. Represent the interests of members when interfacing with other MEA departments affected by milk quality results, which will require demonstrating knowledge of procedures and protocols specific to Member Services and to the MEA and a disciplined approach to implement them.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with Director of Member Services to monitor member milk quality and address deviations in milk quality that restrict efficient movements of member milk
  • Monitor milk quality in the MEA. Suggest and actively participate in implementing strategies to continuously improve milk quality and to address promptly and effectively emerging milk quality issues
  • Consistent and routine contact with field staff in the field consisting of farm visits, industry events, producer meetings, and staff meetings. Follow up with Director of Member Services with suggestions for future staff trainings and resources needed to support our staff.
  • Interface with affected departments to devise strategies to ship the appropriate quality of milk to customer plants while representing a member perspective
  • Monitor, facilitate and expand the MEA specialty milk programs
  • Maintain regular contact with internal personnel to monitor milk quality, milk shrinkage levels during shipment and at milk processing plants. Develop a course of action and respond promptly to correct deficiencies when they are noticed. Coordinate response with other MEA departments as required.
  • Provide the Director of Member Services and administrative staff with complete, accurate, timely information - both written and verbal - to effectively administer MEA programs and policies
  • Alert the Director of Member Services and other appropriate staff of significant developments that affect the MEA's relationships with producers, haulers, customers, competitors, regulatory agencies, or the public
  • Represent DFA and the MEA at industry and public events
  • Regular overnight stays within the Mideast Area are required
  • Occasional travel outside-the-MEA with two to four overnight stays within the U.S. to attend DFA/industry/professional meetings and assist/conduct training for field staff.

Notes:
  • Field area covers all of Ohio and Michigan and parts of Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania
    • Position ideally located within 75-mile radius of Columbus, Ohio, but will consider candidates residing within the overall area
  • 50% - 75% travel (up to 2 weeks per month)
  • Company vehicle provided

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in agriculture, agri-business, food/dairy science, business or related field
  • Five to 10 years of relevant experience with five years in a management/supervisory role
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong member and customer service focus
  • A willingness to recognize the changing nature of the dairy industry and suggest appropriate adjustments consistent with the evolution of the market area
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people in business and social settings
  • Strong technical knowledge of all aspects of milk production with special emphasis on mastitis prevention, cleaning/sanitizing, milk quality, milk hauling and milk marketing
  • Basic to intermediate skill with desktop computers and Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook)
  • Valid driver's license with no significant restrictions or violations
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
