SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Under the general supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) will assist the SLP in the assessment and treatment of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders, implement speech and language programs or activities as planned and directed by the SLP, and monitor use of alternative communication devices and systems.

Now partnering with The Stepping Stones Group, Behavioral Learning Center provides early intervention speech and language therapy in the home as well as clinic setting. BLC offers competitive rates and comprehensive benefit package.  

 

CLINICAL DUTIES

 

THERAPY AND CONSULTATION

 

  • Provide services in a home and clinical setting
  • Assist speech-language pathologists in conducting client screenings or assessments of language, voice, fluency, or articulation
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary professionals including Occupational Therapists, Child Development Specialists, Parent Support Specialists, and Behavior Analysts
  • Conduct therapy, implement treatment plans, and utilize screeners as directed by speech-language pathologist supervisors
  • Collect and compile data to document clients' performance
  • Document clients' progress toward meeting established treatment objectives
  • Assist in conducting in-service training sessions for family and community education programs
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and procedures related to privacy
  • Follow ethical standards and evidence-based practice as outlined by the state licensing board
  • Consult with supervisor to support diverse communication modalities based on individual client needs
  • Exhibit compliance with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations, reimbursement requirements, and SLPAs' responsibilities

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Current license as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant with the Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board of California.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or a related field of study.
  • Preferred: Two or more years' experience working with the pediatric population (preferably in the home or clinic setting)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrate good affect and outgoing personality
  • A high level of professionalism and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate excellent time management, able to multi-task, and able to prioritize job duties.
  • Ability, desire, and flexibility to serve culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse families
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to scheduled client homes and schools in assigned region. If using a personal vehicle, must have current auto liability insurance
  • Ability to work with clients that may have sexual dysfunctions or other potentially disturbing behaviors
