Due to the nature of our work and existing contractual requirements, qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance. Position is non-remote.

The University of Miami's Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing (CSTARS) is currently seeking a Software Developer to augment the ongoing development of satellite data exploitation algorithms and tools and the creation of new software programs and systems using research algorithms and image processing functions of the Center. The Software Developer position involves a wide range of software and flowchart design and development activities within a highly dynamic environment supporting a variety of remote-sensing discovery and analysis programs.

Core Job Functions:

  • The ideal candidate will be able to operationalize research and prototype algorithms into efficient and elegant code-based solutions, while troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining and improving existing software.
  • Applying established methodologies which include compiling and assessing customer feedback to improve software performance and generate technical documentation to guide future software development projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field of study.
  • Minimum of three (3+) or more years of directly related software programming work experience. Proficiency in coding languages including Python, Java and C++
  • Familiarity with source code version management software (SVN preferred).
  • Excellent knowledge of the software development life cycle.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Object-Relational Mapping frameworks.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a team. •
  • Experience in using at least some of the following technologies: ArcGIS Server, GeoServer, MapServer, GDAL, PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, SQL Server Spatial, OpenLayers, OpenStreetMaps, Google Maps API, ArcGIS SDKs and APIs.
  • Ability to identify issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, and will have to interact with CSTARS staff as well as with other persons in the satellite operations community.
