Make a bigger difference

At The Jewish Board, we don't just make a difference - we make a bigger difference as we serve 45,000 New Yorkers every year. Join our dedicated team that's been helping communities across New York City for almost 150 years and see just how big of a difference you can make.

Reasons you'll love working with us:

  • If you have a particular age range or population you're interested in working with, you can find your niche here. Our clients and staff are as diverse as the city we work in, and include people of all cultures, religions, races, gender expressions, and sexual orientations.
  • We're committed to supporting your career development by encouraging mobility and advancement across different program types and jobs.
  • With 70 locations throughout the five boroughs, you can work close to where you live.
  • Generous vacation time and 15 paid holidays will help you achieve a healthy work/life balance.
  • We offer an excellent benefits package with affordable, high-quality health and dental insurance with low co-pays.
  • You'll receive ongoing support through high-quality supervision, specialized trainings from our Continuing Education team, and an education benefit.

How you can make a bigger difference:

The Social Worker in the Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation and Community Programs will provide strengths-based, culturally affirming direct supports to families with a child ages 0-8 using evidence-based group, dyadic and individual interventions. These interventions are designed to help individuals and their families develop skills and resources to improve overall functioning, to instill hope, and to strengthen resiliency. In order to increase access and decrease barriers to support, services are provided in community-based settings outside of a traditional mental health clinic. Our services are provided using a trauma-informed, evidence-based, and racially & culturally affirming approach. Our programs work closely with community partners to address health disparities in our neighborhoods while also celebrating the strengths and resilience of our communities.

The Social Worker partners with families, the interdisciplinary clinical team, and any systems involved in the families' lives (educational, medical, social services etc.) to assess needs in a comprehensive way and provide culturally competent and sensitive services. The Social Worker must have a firm understanding of how trauma and race, class, and privilege impact families of color and must be willing to address these issues as part of the therapy process.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating evidence-based group interventions for caregivers with children ages 0-8 including but not limited to Circle of Security Parenting, Seeking Safety and Early Childhood Loss and Bereavement groups.
  • Providing individual/dyadic support services to a limited caseload of families with young children on a short-term basis to reduce the need for on-going mental health services and/or to provide interim services while family awaits assignment with a clinic-based mental health provider.
  • Partnering with other program staff and/or community partners to create and deliver workshops and/or groups that are tailored to the needs of the community.
  • Developing and maintaining positive working partnerships with community-based agencies across disciplines that serve a similar population, including health care providers, communities of worship, EarlyLearn sites, libraries, neighborhood defender services, etc.
  • Providing advocacy through outreach with providers across the child serving system to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and engage families in services.
  • Assisting families with identifying needs, strengths and challenges.
  • Collaboratively engaging families in progress monitoring and ongoing needs assessment.
  • Collaborating with care providers and community supports to help families meet their goals
  • Conducting relevant early childhood mental health trainings for staff and community partners
  • Consulting with parents as needed addressing factors that contribute to an individual child's or family's difficulties in functioning well in the early childhood setting.
  • Making referrals for children who need intervention beyond community based services to mental health clinics with staff trained in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, i.e. Jewish Board clinics or other community programs.
  • Screening parents and young children to identify trauma and possible depression or mental health conditions.
  • Participating in weekly supervision and staff meetings
  • Completing timely documentation and maintain required statistics/data
  • Ensuring excellent client care in line with State and Agency mandates is uniformly provided.
  • Complying with any other grant deliverables as identified.
  • Engaging families and/or community partners virtually or on-site
