The Short Term Disability Analyst reviews and adjudicates Group Life, Voluntary Life, STD and Voluntary STD, AD&D and Voluntary AD&D and Waiver Life claims. Provides prompt and accurate benefit payments. Provides responsive customer service to claimants, policyholders, plan offices, brokers, beneficiaries and agents.

Hourly wage range: $16.00 - $19.00/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and adjudicates low liability and lower maintenance Group Life, Voluntary Life, STD and Voluntary STD, AD&D and Voluntary AD&D and Waiver Life claims as assigned.
  • Provides prompt and accurate benefit payments.
  • Provides responsive customer service to claimants, policyholders, plan offices, brokers, beneficiaries and agents.
  • Develops an understanding and working knowledge of LifeMap's group Life and Short Term Disability products, policies and contracts.
  • Develops an understanding of the applicable contract/policy definitions, relevant provisions, clauses, exclusions, riders and waivers as well as statutory requirements. Becomes familiar with reference materials and tools regarding medical, vocational and disability issues.
  • Develops an operating knowledge of the applicable disability claims system(s).Develops basic medical and technical claims skills and an understanding of claim practices and procedures.
  • Develops skills, knowledge and awareness of tools & resources available to assist in developing effective RTW strategies on assigned claims.
  • The Level I Life and STD Analyst will provide customer service support and generally be a first line of contact for incoming calls.
  • Provides excellent customer service by paying appropriate claims promptly and quickly responding to all inquiries.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Ability to utilize claim investigative techniques to identify and evaluate claim information in a fair and objective manner.
  • Detail oriented; ability to analyze and research contract information.
  • Demonstrated ability to make balanced decisions with the highest degree of integrity and fairness.
  • Ability to express ideas and recommendations clearly and with a high level of professionalism in written and oral communications.
  • PC skills; ability to operate effectively in an imaged environment.
  • Ability to work with others in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and balance goals and priorities.
  • Excellent customer service skills and problem solving skills, and basic math skills.
  • Operating knowledge of claim payment systems preferred.
Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above:
  • The Short Term Disability Analyst would have a Bachelor's degree in health or business related field or equivalent job related work experience. Medical background and/or disability claim experience preferred.
  • The Short Term Disability Analyst II would have a Bachelor's degree in health or business related field and 3 years job related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Claims analyst experience with emphasis in analysis, critical thinking, decision making, meeting deadlines and customer service preferred.
  • The Short Term Disability Analyst III would have a Bachelor's degree in health or business related field and 4 years job related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
