SUMMARY:

The Service Manager is an individual contributor role who manages, directs, and carries out activities for all phases of service work and technical support requirements to meet and/or exceed the expectations of our customers. However, the incumbent does indirectly manage hourly employees who are assigned to field service projects.

The intent of this role is to take worn or damaged gearboxes, inspect their condition, determine what is involved to make the necessary repairs, write a customer report describing findings and what needs to be done. Obtain the customer purchase order, work with the shop and procurement to make and order the necessary components to re-assemble and ship gearboxes to perform like they are brand new.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the effective operation of the service business including gearbox rebuilds and reverse engineering of customer supplied gearboxes. This includes generating documents for customer supplied products, detailed inspections of same products, the generation of inspection reports detailing the findings from these inspections and preparing quotations for any in-house work.
  • Oversee the effective operation of the field service business which includes preparation of quotations for contractual field service work, purchase order review and order entry, and scheduling of in-house or on-site work.
  • Provide first point of contact for all service-related phone inquiries.
  • Develop and maintain a professional rapport with all service customers and sales representatives with needs or questions.
  • Order entry of service purchase orders in Nuttall's business operation system (SAP) - review all orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquires and problems related to required customer technical support or warranty obligations. Provide in-depth troubleshooting via phone and/or at customers' facilities. Provide on-call customer support when necessary.
  • Manage and schedule service-related travel and maintain accountability for all travel and service-related expenses including additional field personnel when required.
  • Perform field repairs, retrofits, inspections, and troubleshooting of Nuttall Gear supplied products, providing feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing regarding any design or serviceability issues with Nuttall Products.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction with the serviceability of Nuttall products; conduct customer training sessions on maintenance practices or disassembly/assembly procedures when requested or required.
  • Provide input and support to the Product Manager in the development of pricing strategies, market plans, and sales plans for service work to existing and new customers in support of the company's strategic plans.
  • 25% travel, domestic and International, with occasional short notice.

Job Requirements:

Critical Competencies

Nuttall Gear, LLC is required to comply with ITAR (International Trade in Arms Regulations). Therefore, successful candidates for this position must have an unrestricted right to work in the U.S. and not require visa sponsorship either now or in the future.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for mechanical equipment analysis and the ability to read/interpret design drawings and technical procedures or instructions, whether in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule format.
  • Knowledge of general industrial maintenance practices and equipment installation is required.
  • Ability to perform basic trigonometric calculations and the ability to read a variety of measuring instruments such as, but not limited to, micrometers, verniers, dial indicators.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing and assembly drawings, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Competency in writing reports and or instructional procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and or concerns from customers, and or sales representatives and deal with a variety of problems, concerns, complaints, or routine inquiries
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with computers, including MS Office software applications, email, and Internet.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Associates Degree is required, preferably in a technical discipline. Equivalent and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Prior experience in assembling and repairing rotating equipment is desired, with preference for experience working on helical and worm enclosed gear drives.
Physical Demand and Work Environment:



The physical demands of the job, including walking, bending, sitting, lifting and driving. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will be required to use scaffolding, ladders, man-lifts, stairs to reach elevated positions in excess of 60 feet high, i.e. tall structures, overhead cranes, roof tops, etc. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly required to use a variety of hand, power, and hydraulic tools.

In addition to the normal office environment, the employee will be required to enter a typical manufacturing environment or construction site. Use of protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection will be required at most customer locations and/or construction sites. Breathing apparatus will be required at some locations. Personal protective safety equipment must be worn, and proper safety precautions must be observed. Potential exposure may include, but is not limited to: solvents, dusts, lead, fiberglass, noise, heat, cold.
