General Overview

The Senior Project Manager (SrPM) provides project and program management across the Department of People and Organization Development (Learning, Leadership Development, Mobility and Succession, Organizational Development and Employee Experience). The candidate ensures clear pathways to project completion through adherence to timelines, managing stakeholder engagement, and foreseeing obstacles and resistances toward success. The SrPM has a working knowledge of HR and innovative talent management practices.

Using established and innovative project management tools and resources, the SrPM accelerates the alignment of strategic workstreams, offers efficient decision-making frameworks and coordinates the seamless execution of programs that support the department's purpose, goals, and objectives.

The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated conflict competence, organizational and project/program management skills, and experience implementing and supporting projects that scale across large, complex organizations with a diverse workforce similar to Mass General Brigham. The SrPM works independently, problem-solves and finds viable solutions, has a tolerance for ambiguity and is organizationally savvy.

This position reports to the Director of Project Management.

Responsibilities

Program Management
With a high degree of independence, manages the planning, design, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of the P&OD portfolio: facilitate all facets of program development, drive implementation of both internally delivered and vendor managed programs, develop and implement ongoing support model, administer evaluation and continual improvement, and manage ongoing logistics with support from the program team. Collaborates with internal colleagues as needed for program development and strategic alignment of programs and services.

Project Execution
Communicates project timelines, objectives, milestones and deliverables to stakeholders and oversees the execution of the overall plan. Regularly provides status updates to the Director and P&OD functional leaders. Escalates and resolves issues in a timely and effective manner. Monitors internal and external factors throughout the project. Evaluates the impact of risks or changes on a project plan. Resolves or escalates the changes/modifications as necessary.

Risk Management
Establishes and maintains a control process and framework for change. Monitors internal and external factors throughout the project plan. Evaluates the impact of risks or changes on the project plan and implementation. Alerts process owners, Director and VP of any risks jeopardizing the execution of the project. Analyzes risks and develops recommendations solutions.

Manages Complexity
Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to solve problems effectively. For example, consistently looks at complex issues from many angles; obtains a rich and deep understanding; swiftly cuts to the core issue; skillfully separates root causes from symptoms.

Professional Growth and Development
Develops professional capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Problem Solving
The SrPM will manage multiple and sometimes competing stakeholder agendas. Problem-solving and managing conflict while advancing projects to completion are a constant dynamic in this role. Therefore, influencing others, setting clear expectations and meeting timelines are necessary characteristics of a successful candidate.

The Department of People and Organization Development's strategy, goals and objectives impact each Mass General Brigham entity and all vertical layers of the workforce. The SrPM will interact with leaders across Human Resources, People and Organization Development and throughout the enterprise based on the project's span and scope.

Qualifications

  • Education - Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
  • Preferred - Master's Degree in Organization Development, Business Administration, Counseling, Education, Human Resources Development, Training or related field preferred.
  • Experience - Minimum: 5-7 years of experience
  • Preferred - Licenses & Certifications
  • Preferred - Project Management Certification such as PMP
