Overview / Responsibilities

Wood PLC - Life Sciences is currently recruiting for a Senior Project Manager with significant relevant experience in the Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical and/or Biotechnology) industry. As a Senior Project Manager Professional, you'll join our collaborative team providing our clients with high-quality engineering, architectural design, construction management, and design-build project delivery. By developing and delivering on project scopes, budgets, reports, and schedules, you will lead our teams' efforts to meet our client's goals and objectives. Your keen ability to multi-task, communicate effectively and tackle project challenges will allow you to thrive in our fast-paced environment. Working together with our engineering and architectural team members we will solve complex problems, ensuring the success of our projects. You'll also provide motivation and direction to project teams and be surrounded by expert mentorship and mentoring opportunities to help you and your team thrive.

The Project Manager will plan, schedule, and coordinate the engineering activities on technically complex projects. The work requires knowledge of Life Sciences industry practices and associated engineering work processes. Occasional travel to project meetings and job sites, as necessary, is required. The Project Manager will suggest work process improvements, and implements corrective actions, as necessary, to achieve budgets and schedules. Independently performs most assignments.

Wood is currently assembling some of the best talent for our Life Sciences teams within our Philadelphia, PA, Greenville, SC and Raleigh, NC offices to develop life-changing and in many cases, life-saving solutions for our clients. Fully remote candidates will also be considered.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Contribute to and review the project proposal and plan to determine schedules, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project. Contributes to setting project evaluation parameters.
  • P & L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including revenue and margin delivery, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost control, accounts payable/billing and cash collection
  • Negotiates changes to project scope or specification with the client. Follows Change Management process to identify and approve scope, budget specification and schedule modifications
  • Establishes project procedures and prepares project execution plan including the scope of work, deliverables list, master schedule, budget, org charts, risk register etc
  • Identify, pursue and develop opportunities for innovation, such as digitalization and technology use, work share and high value engineering centers, to bring value to Wood and our clients.
  • Regularly reports project progress to senior management and/or the client.
  • Responsible for delivery of agreed schedule and financial performance, proactively intervening to avoid slippage
  • Leads ongoing focus on risk identification and mitigation during project execution
  • Participate in assurance activities and peer reviews
  • Responsible for the project HSSE leadership, ensures a program of initiatives and auditing schedule are established and that HSSE and quality management issues are proactively addressed
  • Guides and directs a multidiscipline project team, which may include external specialists and involve staff from multiple offices and sites
  • Responsible for ensuring project team members are competent to carry out assigned duties
  • Promotes and sets up performance improvement culture and actions on complex projects and into their supply chains.
  • Facilitates the set up of information management systems / applications as applicable to suit various life phases of projects and manage information management project team
  • Assess the scope, complexity and financial risk associated with the project and involvement in the negotiation of the terms, visibility of project in local community, and attracting the required staff based on their credibility and experience


Skills / Qualifications

  • May serve as an individual contributor or may plan, assign, coordinate, and review work of others depending on the scope of a particular assignment
  • Ensures the work performed is on schedule and within budget
  • Skills Requirements :
    • Strong working knowledge in design and construction, building systems/components and technology, contract management, project delivery methods, ESG applications, team and client relationship building
    • Experience in the execution of multi-office projects
    • Excellent written and oral skills and an effective presenter.
    • Organizes, prioritizes and plans work activities, while using time efficiently
    • Organizes, plans, prioritizes, and reviews the work of other engineers
    • Gathers and analyzes information skillfully, while developing alternative solutions, if necessary
    • Understands business implications of decisions and activities
    • Works with administrative supervision and effectively manages multiple and conflicting priorities
    • Works cooperatively with others as a team member and/or leader,
    • Understands both the technical and commercial aspects of the organization's projects and proposals

Education and Experience Requirements :
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture preferred
    • A fully competent engineer with a well-developed knowledge of the engineering work processes, principles and practices associated with organization products and services,
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the industry practices in general and knowledge and understanding of how the work integrates into a complete project
    • 10+ years of related industry experience
    • Project Management Professional (PMP), Associate in Project Management (APM) or equivalent certification is preferred

Physical Requirements :
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit and walk
    • May require close vision work and travel
