The Sr Manufacturing Engineer - Lean position develops, maintains, optimizes, and implements cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and manufacturing strategy.They will be a pivotal member of the Operations team as Henny Penny defines, implements, and revises its Lean strategy throughout manufacturing. Additionally, they are a member of a larger cross functional team focused on evolving the company's production processes and methods in support of digital transformation and operational excellence implementation strategies by instilling a culture of Lean and continuous improvement across Operations.This is for sheet metal fabrication, assembly, and functional testing in a low volume, high mix environment.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management and employee training based on lean principles and data.
  • Ensure compliance of practices, procedures, and instructions relative to applicable corporate standards.
  • Assists Operations teams in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and training based on Lean principals while developing Lean facilitators and practitioners throughout the shop floor.
  • Establish and drive 5S principles across the shop floor.
  • Performs research, designs, improves, and implements manufacturing processes including material flow and presentation, assembly methods, space requirements, assembly line layouts, and production equipment.
  • Skillfully uses logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses, the costs and benefits, and the short and long-term consequences of different approaches.
  • Works with other engineers in planning work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, material flow, and workspace layout for maximum efficiency.
  • Lead and train others on performing problem solving activities in manufacturing operations to quickly identify and permanently resolve quality and productivity issues
  • Coordinates with manufacturing implementation of new or redesigned processes to include establishing goals, training assembly operators and managers, and evaluating results.
  • Performs process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Represents Manufacturing and works within cross-functional teams (Quality, Safety, Design, Manufacturing) to identify and solve manufacturing-related problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial) or equivalent experience and tenure.
  • 10+ years manufacturing process experience desired.
  • Certification and experience with continuous improvement tools such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and conduct root cause analysis using a data driven approach together with logical problem-solving tools and methods.
  • Strong knowledge and proven use of most of the Lean Tools and Principles.
  • Competency in identifying and eliminating 8 manufacturing wastes: Transport, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Over Production, Over Processing, Defects and Underutilization of Skills.
  • Formal training and experience with standard time, Takt, work balance, time study, and value stream mapping.
  • Demonstratable application of 5S principles within manufacturing and JIT material flow.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. AutoCAD a plus.
  • Effective problem solver and possess excellent ability to multitask.
  • Understanding of visual management principles.
  • Willingness and ability to travel overnight for trainings and tradeshows.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment, as well as work independently without management oversight in a fast-paced and dynamic environment is critical.
  • Ability to mentor team members and facilitate change from a position of influencer while energizing and motivating teams.
