The Senior Manager of Design drives key product looks and implements creative direction and big ideas for category into seasonal ranges while implementing and executing seasonal assortment plans and design briefs.

Responsibilities

Concept:

  • Contribute to the creative direction for the brand.
  • Ensuring the commercial mix of up to date classics and new innovations in line with Brand strategies.
  • Deep knowledge of the market place and shifts in trends - color, pattern, fabrics, styling, innovations.
  • Work with cross functional teams to commercialize new innovations.
Seasonal Range Development
  • Constantly monitor the category's vision and ensure that the products being developed are in complete harmony with the direction of the category.
  • Drive & implement new shape, fabrics, trims and print directions in line with brand direction.
  • Co-ordinate with the Chief Design Officer, Merchandisers/ Product Managers to ensure the teams are communicating and in line with Business Calendar.
  • Ensure that all range requirements have been met at the time of final range meetings.
  • Present to the Chief Design officer and Merchandiser the color, prints and seasonal raw materials library for final approvals.
  • Assist in implementing and executing project work.
  • Assist cross functional team in finalizing development information through story boards, PLM input and presentation documents.
  • Ensure quality standards of product development.
Research of Global Trends
  • International travel at key times during the year to research global consumer trends.
  • Regular in store visits to gain intelligence on competitors and local market trends.
  • Use creative forecast services, magazines, colour authorities, websites and market analysis to assist in developing seasonal trend and colour directions for the category.
  • Develop an awareness of likely 'mega trends' to ensure the category is presenting innovation to the market before its competitors.
  • Research the US market competitive product and assess product performance.
Product Presentation
  • Work with Designers, Merchandisers/ Product Managers to prepare presentations for new range sell in such as story boards and color palettes.
  • Ensure that the "look" and quality of presentation materials is in line with the set standards of the season and Brand and is completed on time.
  • Present the seasonal direction to the Business.
Commercial Viability
  • To develop a highly commercial and profitable product range.
  • Good knowledge of the technical attributes of raw materials.
  • Knowledge of latest trends in fabric and componentry.
  • Develop relationships with HBI stakeholders and understand suppliers capabilities.
  • Continually maintain and improve design procedures to better achieve speed and cost.
  • Ensure the quality and timeliness of information that is input into the PLM system.
Timeline Management
  • Prioritise cross-functional team workflow to maximize efficiency.
  • Co-ordinate with the Merchandising/Product and Supply Chain Managers, Patternmakers and Pre Order to ensure the timely presentation of new developments.
  • Attend all weekly Business Calendar meetings.
  • Ensure all requirements have been met at the time of final range sign off meetings held each season.
  • Increase speed to market through improving design processes.
  • Ensure prototypes/samples iteration is minimal.
  • Ensure DIFOT of seasonal range.
cross functional teamwork
  • Foster teamwork/cohesiveness across category teams including PD, R&D and textile artists.
  • Identify and provide constructive and continual solutions for problems faced by direct reports.
  • Provide regular communication and feedback to Chief Design Officer.

Qualifications

Education & Qualifications Required:
  • Degree in Fashion and Design
  • 5+ years experience in a similar role
  • A track record of commercial creativity
  • A proven ability to meet tight deadlines
  • A good knowledge of fabric and textiles, garment construction and apparel manufacturing
  • Have worked with in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proficiency in Adobe programs, ppt, PLM
  • Previous experience in coaching, mentoring and developing a team
  • Adaptability - Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work tasks or the work environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
  • Planning and Organising - Establishing courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

  • Follow up - Establishing procedures to monitor the results of delegations, assignments, or projects; taking into consideration the skills, knowledge and experience of the assigned individual and characteristics of the assignment or project.
  • Work standards - Setting high standards of performance for self and others; assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks; self imposing standards of excellence rather than having standards imposed
