The Office of Internal Audit reviews and audits University operations to identify opportunities to help DU improve operations and reduce risk, ultimately to increase the chances of meeting strategic goals. Internal Audit selects areas of focus based on an organization-wide risk assessment designed to enable us to devote our resources to those areas that may be most meaningful to assess. In those areas, we endeavor to provide an objective opinion as to whether procedures in place reasonably achieve the goals of key processes.

Position Summary

Plans, organizes, executes and oversees assigned audits in accordance with professional standards for the practice of internal auditing. Interacts with all levels of management throughout the University. Provides feedback and guidance on risk assessment in determining audit scope. Evaluates, reviews and analyzes operational, financial and compliance internal controls to identify significant control weaknesses. Develops recommendations based on synthesized information for management to improve the control environment.

Essential Functions

In addition to following the University of Denver's policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently plans, performs, and prepares reports on the execution of selected audits.
  • Conducts assigned audit engagements successfully from beginning to end with minimal supervision.
  • Identifies and communicates issues raised, offering recommended solutions relevant to business and risk.
  • Ensures audit conclusions are based on a complete understanding of the process, circumstances, and risk.
  • Develops audit programs and testing procedures relevant to risk and test objectives.
  • Obtains and reviews evidence ensuring audit conclusions are well-documented.
  • Ensures adherence to applicable department and professional standards.
  • Performs follow up testing on outstanding findings.
  • Performs consulting projects at the request of management and assists with hotline investigations.
  • Participates in the risk assessment process.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • 5 years audit experience.
  • Relevant certification (i.e. CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE), or ability to certify within one year of start date.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
