Overview

The Security Officer 1 - Weapons Detection is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses - are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Facility: Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center

Job Summary:

Responsible for a fixed post or patrolling an assigned area to preserve peace and order, to provide excellent customer service, and to protect persons and property, and to perform duties relating to the welfare and safety of the employees, patients, visitors, and property of WellStar Health System.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Enforce the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of Wellstar Health System

- Provide assistance to employees, patients and visitors.
- Assist with traffic and parking control.
- Document observations, hazards, and incidents for follow up corrective action.
- Take immediate corrective action against hazards and conditions which may cause injury or damage.
- Report any unsafe conditions and actions taken to supervisor. Safety/ Emergency responsibility response

- Assist with emergency response as directed by supervisor.
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations
- Escort persons and assist facility personnel.
- Be vigilant and alert for activities, which could result in injury to a person or damage to or loss of property.
- Assist with fire drills and disaster/emergency exercises as required. Provide excellent customer service

- Provide a visible deterrence to crime, prohibited activities, or suspicious activities in public and non-public areas.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with facility staff members.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of a facility and where applicable of multiple facilities.
- Communicate effectively with diverse people including clients or their representatives, client employees, visitors, or client vendors.
- Write accurate, clear, and legible reports.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and in-service classes related to the Security Department.

Required Minimum Education:

High school diploma Required or
GED Equivalent Required

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

Georgia Driver's License 1.00 Required
Georgia Weapons Carry Permit 2.00 within 30 Days Required
IAHSS Crt HC Security Bas Ofcr 3.00 within 1-1/2 Yrs Required

Additional Licenses and Certifications:

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 1 year private safety/security, military, or law enforcement experience Required

Required Minimum Skills:

Ability to speak, read, write, and follow written and oral instructions.
Possess writing skills necessary to complete incident, accident, and investigative reports.
Must be able to successfully complete standard security training programs including IAHSS, AVADE de-escalation, defensive tactics, and Taser.
Public relations skills necessary to communicate effectively with the public in a courteous, professional, and tactful manner.
Must be able to accept responsibility, manage authority and maintain confidentiality of information.
Ability to function independent of constant supervision and exercise physical and emotional restraint under stressful conditions.
Ability to observe, listen attentively and use problem-solving skills.
