Overview

The Scrum Master is an advanced Agile practitioner responsible for ensuring their teams embrace agile principles by serving as a coach and guide to establish an environment where the team can be most effective in delivering value often with high quality. Works to achieve operational targets within job area which impacts on the overall achievement of results for the department and is high-profile in nature. Work is of vast scope, typically on large, complex projects with interdependencies across departments and divisions. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees. Communicates with contacts typically across the department on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring some explanation or interpretation in order to reach agreement. Will work to influence parties across functions and job levels to deliver final products and features within a value stream or multiple value streams.

  • Responsible for adjusting or recommending enhancements in systems and processes to solve problems or improve effectiveness of job area.
  • Problems and issues faced complex spanning multiple departments.
  • Problems may require understanding of other job areas.
  • Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experiences, with analysis of the issue.
  • Guide multiple scrum teams on Agile/Scrum principles and practices
  • Leads inexperienced teams and coach them to a higher level of maturity
  • Develops multiple self-organizing team
  • Assess the maturity of multiple scrum teams and coach the teams to higher levels of maturity
  • Remove impediments or guide the team to remove impediments
  • Build a trusting and safe team environment
  • Holds team accountable to their commitments in delivery
  • Leads internal and external communication for their Scrum Teams
  • Support the Product Owner with respect to refining and maintaining the product backlog
  • Maybe leveraged to run Agile at scale and take on additional release train engineering duties

Qualifications

SpecificExperience/Education/CertificationRequirements(Knowledge & Experience;Qualifications):
  • 5+ years Scrum Master experience applying Scrum principles
  • BS/BA Degree?preferred
  • CSM/ACSM Certification or equivalent preferred
  • SAFe Certification preferred
  • Desire to work as a leader on a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to quickly learn and utilize software tools
  • Proven experience successfully following an agile framework
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge of other agile approaches (XP, Kanban) preferred
  • Experience leading multiple teams
