The Safety Supervisor reports to the Safety Manager and oversees distribution center and/or US office specific safety programs in order to provide coworkers, contractors, drivers, vendors and visitors a safe work environment. This role helps to ensure compliance with standards set by all federal, state, and local governmental agencies such as OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA, etc. The Safety Supervisor also helps to reduce workers compensation costs and liability issues for the company.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensures that coworkers are following all applicable CDW Safety rules and guidelines through spot checks and ongoing communications with the leadership team.
  • Leads and trains Safety Committee and Emergency Response Team members for the distribution center and/or US office locations.
  • Conducts periodic safety inspections and testing including fire extinguishers, fire equipment, pre-shift stretching, forklift operation, AED & First Aid kits, etc., and actively works to resolve any issues with Operations management.
  • Conducts safety observations to reinforce positive behavior and provide constructive feedback.
  • Tracks safety observations and creates reports.
  • Supervises distribution center and US office location coworkers on safe behavior habits and provides feedback as necessary.
  • Leads safety training for and awareness efforts of coworkers, contractors, partners, visitors.
  • Coordinates and facilitates all safety trainings and drills.
  • Provides support to Safety Manager and the Safety Team members with monitoring safety programs such as Safe Lifting, Injury Prevention, Fall Protection, Observe Coach Reinforce (OCR), Powered Industrial Vehicles, First Aid/CPR/AED, Hazard Communication, etc.
  • Leads hazard reduction efforts.
  • Administers the CDW Safety Recognition Programs.
  • Stays up-to-date with all regulations in order to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as fire, severe weather, spills, flood, workplace violence, and other similar types of business interruptions covered in the CDW Business Continuity Program (BCP).
  • Conducts incident investigations, completes the required documentation and works with the Incident Investigation Team and the Operations leadership team to prevent re-occurrence.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications

    •  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or similar field or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years’ experience with Federal, State, and local safety regulations including those covered under OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and DOT.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all stakeholders, including senior leadership, even during times of crisis or disaster.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to be persuasive and demonstrate creative problem solving.
  • Track record of successfully resolving safety issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with little direction while being able to shift priorities quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience with Behavior Based Safety and Ergonomics Programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, coach and train others.
  • Ability to travel 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

    •  
  • Experience with office safety programs and high-rise building environments.
  • Ability to speak/write Spanish.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification, Paramedic license or other similar training/certification.
  • Experience with Industrial Athletic programs or Sports Medicine programs.
  • Experience with International Safety Regulations.
