Summary of Duties

The Safety & Security Officer maintains a safe and secure environment for Students, Faculty and Staff at the Lima Campus and Borra Center for Health Sciences (Borra Center).
Full-Time: Second (4p-12a) or Third Shift (12a-8a) available, 40 hrs/week

Duties & Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director, the Safety- Security Officer shall perform the following:

  • Assist in providing security and assistance for all Lima Campus and Borra Center students, faculty and staff; and assist in protecting all Lima Campus buildings and vehicles by making and providing for routine rounds and checks of buildings, walkways, grounds, and parking lots.
  • Monitor main entry desk at Borra Center.
  • Issue parking citations, check on vehicles, assist with lock-out, starting cars, assist with towing illegally parked vehicles, etc.
  • Provide escort services between campus buildings and parking lots.
  • Respond to calls for service such as crimes, traffic crashes, and medical emergencies on campus. Make or assist in making the appropriate notifications of police, fire or emergency medical service agencies.
  • Be alert to safety hazards in buildings, on grounds, and parking lots and reporting same in timely fashion to maintenance.
  • Lock down buildings, classrooms, offices, and labs at night or anytime campus is closed.
  • Check locked buildings, labs, classrooms, and offices while making rounds to insure their security.
  • Open buildings, labs, classrooms during regular business hours daily.
  • Investigate suspicious activity and make appropriate notifications to law enforcement if needed.
  • Make appropriate Safety and Security log entries, reports, and maintenance requests.
  • Demonstrate ability to become department certified in the use of chemical spray (pepper or OC) and Taser.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
  • Experience, Skills & Abilities

    Knowledge of first aid and CPR. Must have and be able to maintain a valid Ohio driver's license. Must successfully complete a criminal and credit background check. Ability to deal politely and effectively with faculty, staff, students and general public required. Must be able to perform physical activity including walking and climbing stairs.

    Education & Certifications

    High School Diploma or GED.
    OPOTA certification preferred. 3-5 years' experience in law enforcement preferred.
    Two-year associate degree or its equivalent preferred.
