Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Safety Administrator. The Safety Administrator will spend a significant amount of time working in an office environment in support of the Safety Management team and will be performing administrative and office duties of a complex and challenging nature. The working environment is dynamic, high energy, and subject to swiftly changing priorities, tasks, and projects. The ideal candidate will have some experience in the public transit industry, but emphasis in selection will be on effective time management, administrative and organizational ability, people skills, delivery of assigned tasks to given timelines, and demonstrated experience as an effective administrator.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions.
  • Respond to and/or provide for trained staff response to operator collisions and incidents, ensuring appropriate collection of information, documentation of events, and reporting per company and client policy.
  • Review all vehicular, passenger and employee collisions/accidents/incidents for determination of root cause, preventability, identifying potential trends to be addressed in future training efforts as well as ensuring that retraining and safety points are assessed according to company policy.
  • Assist both the Safety Manager and Safety Coordinator in working with corporate claims staff to ensure that all liability and worker's compensation claims are handled promptly and effectively and to reduce financial liability as well as recoup on all claims subject to subrogation.
  • Support and assist the Safety Manager to effectively administer and manage all aspects of the Corporate FTA compliant and Drug and Alcohol Testing program including pre-employment, random and post-accident testing requirements. Conduct regular reviews of local testing facilities ensuring compliance with corporate and federal policy.
  • Support and assist the Safety Manager to establish functional Safety Committee of operators and staff to review safety concerns and make recommendations to management for potential additional safety efforts as part of the SMS program.
  • Assist both the Training and Safety Managers as a liaison to the Operations and Vehicle Maintenance departments in identifying additional or refresher training needs based on current trends within the employee base.
  • Assist the Safety Manager in the complete and accurate documentation of all safety and training activities and the accurate completion of all related employee records.
  • Establish relationships with key client agency personnel to identify additional safety and training needs, resources and opportunities.
  • Assist both the Safety and Training Managers in conducting regular and random audits of employee training files and vehicle maintenance files and conduct regular facility safety audits ensuring compliance with various oversight agency (such as OSHA and EPA) regulations and related corporate standards/policies.
  • Assist with the successful completion of all related audits including those conducted by corporate and client staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Assist both the Safety and Training Managers to ensure that operator performance reviews, "ride-a-longs", road checks and evaluations are conducted according to local contract and corporate policy and requirements. Provide feedback and follow up for operator performance reviews and identify individual training needs where necessary.
  • Provide regular reports to local and corporate management staff of safety department efforts, claims status, training efforts, accident history, worker's compensation claims status, and other required information.

Talent Requirements:
  • Two (2) semesters of college or technical/vocational training in office processes.
  • Personal and network computer skills required.
  • Intermediate database, data analytic, word processing, spreadsheet, and other industry, commercial, and specialized software and application knowledge, skills, and competencies.
  • Great people skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Priority setting skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Possess leadership abilities.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Current and valid state of Texas Driver's license. Texas CDL + Passenger Endorsement preferred, but not required.
