Job Summary:

Responsible for leading Robotic engineering specific to the robot program or other material-handling conveyor projects if assigned. You will be expected to mentor and train multiple project engineers, assist as a mechanical SME, and support the development and improvement of workplace procedures. This requires interfacing with engineering management, mechanical and electrical team members, business development, MHS equipment, MHS field installation, system and estimating, vendors, project customer(s), and project management. You are also, expected to lead in technical discussions with the customer.

Responsibilities:

  • Robotics subject matter expert
  • Technical lead to the customers, seen as "Engineering Manager" in the eyes of USPS
  • Will be expected to create and run technical update meetings with the customer
  • Will be the main point of contact with the customer for technical issues
  • Provide technical support for vendors, field installation personnel, and engineering subcontractors as related to inquiries
  • Direct and assist engineering continuous improvement projects and presentations
  • Complete detail-oriented work producing well above average results
  • Provide mentorship to all PEs and designers
  • Create and maintain a mechanical engineering schedule that supports installation with the Project Engineer and Project Manager
  • Assist Project Engineers with estimating mechanical hours and executing change orders
  • Support Project Management, PEs, and designers navigate issues
  • Help Project Engineers interpret and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Support business development and systems with lessons learned and system design as the subject matter expert
  • Audit requestions and other documents from PEs for accuracy and constructive feedback
  • Audit drawings provided by mechanical designers for accuracy and constructive feedback
  • Scrubbing, maintaining, and verifying conveyor manifests
  • Ability to multitask and work on multiple large projects at once
  • Support multiple large project teams
  • Execute and support a customer program of projects which includes leading multiple PEs at once
  • Lead and support weekly meetings with project engineers, team members, project customer(s), and project management
  • Proficient at delegating and work organization
  • Provide weekly detailed updates to mechanical management and upper management as required
  • Help advance material procurement identify long lead items
  • Project contract requirements and options
  • Read, understand, and apply customer specifications
  • Communicate project-specific information with other MHS departments including project management, purchasing, electrical engineering, field installation and fabrication department.
  • Maintain project-specific requirements while applying general knowledge of conveying systems, conveying equipment and customer general specifications and standards
  • Be cognoscente of areas for professional development, cost reduction, quality improvements and enhanced customer service
  • Direct engineering analysis determined by project needs in multiple disciplines including structural, mechanical power transmission, and fluid power
  • Must be able to travel to jobsites and customer meetings as required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable of most MHS customers, systems, and internal processes
  • A thorough grasp of project contract documents including clarifications and exceptions
  • Efficient in an accelerated schedule-driven environment set by the customer and MHS project management
  • Execute the project within the budget and hours in the contract estimate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Great mentor and teaching skills
  • Good knowledge of system-wide equipment and operations
  • Good knowledge of multiple MHS customers and systems
  • Understand project material requirements and submit for purchase as to meet installation schedule.
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, organize your own work, participate in setting priorities, and meet critical time deadlines

Education and Experience:
  • Ten to fifteen years of material handling equipment experience preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, such as Outlook, Excel and Project are required
  • Familiar with AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, and BIM is required
  • Knowledge of:
    • Power transmission equipment
    • Steel fabrication
    • Microsoft Office
    • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering and design
