Roadway Design Engineer

What We're Looking For: 

Barge Design Solutionsis currently seeking to fill the position of Roadway Design Engineer(PE) in our Chattanooga, TN and Nashville, TN office locations.


Responsibilities forthis position include:

  • Designs a variety of roadway project types including urban streets, rural highways, bridge replacements, sidewalks and trails, complex interchanges, roundabouts and intersection improvements
  • Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to resolve a variety of complex problems
  • Supervises the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project
  • Prepares and reviews technical reports, drawings, plans, specifications, and permits for projects
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
  • Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects
  • Conducts project site visits, as needed
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills; Works independently on multiple tasks without immediate supervision
  • Builds and maintains excellent interpersonal relationships
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of Tennessee Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures
  • Understands standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry
  • Performs other duties as requested

 Education & Experience Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited program
  • Minimum of 6 years of roadway design experience
  • Proficient in hydrology and hydraulic design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee or an ability to obtain PE in Tennessee within 6 months of start date is required
  • Experience using MicroStation V8i and Geopak is required
  • Openroads Designer experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering principles, practices and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines
  • Skill using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • Tennessee Department of Transportation project experience is required
