Working under the direction of Pediatric Oncology Ambulatory Nurse Manager and with guidance from the Pediatric Oncology Clinical Social Worker and working on-site at the Pediatric Oncology Clinic, the Pediatric Oncology Resource Specialist is responsible for researching resources and collaborating with community programs to identify current sources of support for Mass General Pediatric Oncology patients and families. Will work directly with families to complete applications for grants and assistance offered by those organizations. Will educate families about community programs, eligibility and limitations of those resources. Will work in conjunction with the Clinical Social Worker in Pediatric Oncology, who will identify families in need and refer to the Resource Specialist for assistance. In addition to accessing specific pediatric oncology resources, the Resource Specialist will become knowledgeable about other community resources that would be relevant and needed by these families. This could include but are not limited to community programs that provide transportation, housing, food and fuel assistance. The Pediatric Oncology Resource Specialist will offer guidance and referrals for families in need of such support. Will develop and maintain a data base of current pediatric oncology resources available to families both locally and regionally and keep this current and updated to reflect changes that occur with these programs. Will document in the electronic medical record (EPIC) to reflect resources accessed on behalf of families and referrals made to community programs.
