Job Description

Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

Who You Are

As a valued Researcher with the Research and Development team here at GM, you will innovate through next-gen ideas, explore new technology areas, and establish technical plans. You will conduct research, experiments to collect required data and use characterization methods to validate research ideas. As part of the Battery Cell Systems Research team your mission will be to help develop innovative energy solutions which meet energy density target and abuse tolerance for our future vehicles. You'll also write timely and high-quality research reports, external publications, and records of invention to detail new insights and research results in your area of research. Excited yet? What You Do

  • Develop laboratory methods and techniques to understand key mechanisms and critical variables in battery abuse tolerance
  • Rigorous experimental studies of battery performance limitations
  • Achieve deep understanding of structure-composition-property-performance interrelationships
  • Develop and implement technical plans, including concept generation, development, and evaluation
  • Lead technical discussions and reviews as a technical specialist
  • Maintain pioneering knowledge in related areas of responsibility.
  • Capture findings in internal reports and external publications to disseminate knowledge and drive collaboration with internal and external partners results effectively via presentations and written reports
  • Generate and capture novel intellectual property in patents
  • Demonstrate innovative thinking and positive relationship building skills

Additional Job Description

What You Need
  • Advanced Degree in Science/engineering fields with proven research capability
  • 4+ years research experience
  • Interpersonal traits for effective collaboration with others
  • Knowledge in Thermodynamics
What Would Be Even Better
  • Knowledge in battery system synthesis/analysis
  • 3+ years of postdoc or industrial research experience
